I'll take that bet. Then again, I've seen bidders do more foolish things than that on ebay. Have a look at the photo that shows the inside of the fuel tank. See the pitting on the "triple show chrome plated" side panels and the absolutely horrible condition of the paint near the filler opening? That's a restoration? Rolling Eyes The exhaust down pipes look pretty funky as well, and the closest pic of the mufflers appear to show cosmetic damage - or maybe that's just the same type of dirt that's all over the frame. He really should have detailed the bike before taking photos. But no amount of detailing is going to fix that fuel tank paint. And for me, it casts doubt on the quality of the rest of the build. This is a 20-footer for sure.

Stu, did you email the seller and tell him what you thought about the picture of the gas tank opening? I see he has removed it from the listing. Embarassed OR maybe he reads this forum and saw the posting.... Razz

I think this guy is not be completely honest about using all NOS parts when he restored this bike. For a bike with a supposed 31 miles the exhaust pipes and the mufflers look a little rough.

I do see he removed the pic of the bad paint. Maybe that pic was taken after the POR-15 job but before the repaint - just giving the benefit of doubt. But there's no way I'd bid on that bike without seeing it in the flesh, or at least with a lot more close up pics. And if he wants that kind of money, he'd better put up a You Tube video of the bike running. Most of these "restored" 305s I've seen have been rats with fresh paint. Yeah, I sent him a PM asking where the pic went.

I would not bid on that bike or pay the money that this guy is asking. Simply because after looking at the pictures, I see a few things that tell me that there is more going on that this guy is talking about. Not to mention most of the pictures are of this bike a considerable distance away. Since I already have a few superhawks in the shop that will eventually be restored in the next few years I can already tell you that the bike is not worth about $3-$5000 which average for a superhawk. Not the $8-$10,000 that he expects.

I contacted the seller and he stated that his reserve is $3500 so I guess he's in the ballpark. I assumed from his detailed description that this was a "Trailer Queen" or a "Show Bike". Thats why I guesstamated $8750 to start with. I how think it will go for around $4K.

$3500 is a little high. That bike should go for $3000. There are some condition issues on the exhaust which is why I would say 3000 is a more realistic number. Trust me after dealing with you guys for years I know what most you are like when it comes to buying bikes. The prettier the bike the more money you want for it. That bike is not that pretty to get the numbers he expects.

He should have started the bidding at $300, not $3,000. He still wouldn't lose the bike unless his $3,500 reserve was broken. But the low starting price would generate some bids and get some folks worked up about the bike. As it stands now, my hunch is he won't get a single bid. BTW, he cleaned the paint and put up new pics of the fuel tank opening.

I was wrong. He's got his reserve now. I'll guess we'll see what it's really worth at the end.

This is really tempting to me to restore that Superhawk chopper I have. Of course I will lose money when I do decide to sell it, but it will be fun to ride.
