Anybody have any tips on how to load the kick start spring on a CB160? I have been at it for a day or two and not there yet.

I own a CB 160 but never had mine apart. It looks like they just use a screwdriver to sit it. Anyway I looked in my service manual, and it says:

1. When the upper and the lower crankcase are separated by following the disassembly order of the transmission, the kick starter spindle is exposed.

2. "At assembling, especially of the kick starter spring, operation is easily performed if reference is made to the figure. (Refer to Fig. 3. 132)

(sorry for the quality)

Jim

I have the same info Jim. I have set things up as it is in the photo but not working yet. I have had the spring wound where it needs to go but cant seem to get it on to the spring hook. The restorations I have done the springs are always a problem. I have made special tools for spring work but the ones I have are stretchers not for winding.

I think you'd have better luck by approaching the spring from the other direction. Then you'd be pulling up on the screwdriver handle and forcing the spring hook down toward the shaft as you wind it. The way they show it in that pic, the more you wind the spring, the hook gets pulled up and away from the shaft.
