I need to remove the forks on my '66 CM91. The nut holding this all together is called a "top thread" in the service manual and calls for the use of a 36mm hook spanner. It has 4 grooves cut round the outer edge. I have tried a couple of other ways to grip the grooves but no luck budging the nut.

I see these Hook Spanners for sale but the are mainly for bicycles and look way to flimsy to work on this nut.

Does anyone have a suggestion or know where I can get a proper tool for this?

Thanks

The bicycle ones work just fine. Most of the Japanese machines I owned in the 70's and 80's had a Hook Spanner in the stock toolkit (usually much maligned by moto-journalists) that came with the bikes.

Yes , I purchased mine at a local bicycle shop. That nut is used to apply a torque pre-load for the head bearings. Shouldn't be on very tight. Try tapping it off with a brass punch until you purchase a wrench.
