There aren't any holes real close to the drain plug. Can you tell from this pic which hole it's coming from? If it's coming from that small empty hole near the sludge drain, you probably have a leak at your oil pump lines that's draining down from the top of the crankcase.

Stu,I just looked under there and they all have oil drips on them from sitting over the winter. I have wiped them down to see which will continue to leak or if,as you say, there is a leak from topside which is draining down there.I would like to drain the oil since I was using the wrong type last season anyway. and your diagram has me worried. One hole says"dont remove",why is this? also do I need to open both clutch and trans bolts to drain trans fluid? I was using oil which I found out to be the reason for my clutch slippage last riding season. thanks for the quick reply at any rate...regards..Pete

You'll find that explanation if you click on the link Dor posted.

Pete,
I can only speak from my own experience. If I open the plug I labeled clutch drain, I get out about 1/2 quart. When I open the one labeled trans drain, a whole bunch more comes out.

thanks Stu. The oil feeder lines under the carb are leaking for sure. Dont know if I will also have to see if I can put some washers or something on the trans drain and clutch drain as well. Argh! will keep u posted...thx.

If they're leaking from the banjo fittings, make sure each fitting has a sealing washer on each side, then snug up the small bolts. But be careful. It doesn't take a whole lot to strip those small threads.

Those bolts are supposed to have a sealing washer under them. Suzuki still sells them.

When you talk about the banjo fittings you are refering to the oil supply lines under the carb right? and when you refer to the bolts, you mean the drains underneath? Just want to be clear and thanks again for the reply.

Yes - banjo fittings are on the oil supply lines at both ends and also on both ends of the line supplying oil from the oil tank to pump. Each banjo fitting has a thin aluminum washer on both sides. The drain bolts on the underside of the engine use washers that seal by crushing to fit the shape of the crankcase and bolt head. Technically, they should be replaced each time the bolt is removed, but I don't know anyone other than me who does that.
