I guess my subject line says it all. I've got this wild hair to check off one more thing on my bucket list (before I go to the nursing home) and that would be flattracking.
I raced MX back in the day ('73 Honda 250 Elsinore; 75-76 RM370 Suzuki) and wonder what its like to back into a turn with other old fools just inches away. AHRMA seems to be more my style (much more laid back and a lot more old fools).
Which brings me to the question of a pre-74 TS250. Looks like the Yamaha DT250 or MX250 are easily adaptable but out of brand loyalty, I'd rather go with the Suzuki TS250 or TM250. Has anyone had any experience trying to flattrack either of these bikes? What kinds of (low budget) mods did you do to make it handle and get all you could get? And finally, are any of the TS250 and TM250 engine parts (cylinder/head/carb/exhaust) interchangeable?

Hey Capt, as far as wanting to flat track, good for you. I've recently seen men (and know a few) that are in their late 60's still mixing it up, and on 750 Triumphs no less. I would have to say the TM250 would be a little more competitive than the TS250. A good source of info would be AHRMA or Flattrack.com.

Well fellas, I'm in the soup now!
Its not a Suzuki but I just had an internet handshake for the purchase of a 1978 Yamaha TT500 rolling frame with a SR500 engine that is "race ready". The frame has been cut to the right fork angle (26 degrees) plus set up with up with Maxxis tires, flattrack handle bars, etc., etc., etc. Its been an ARHMA winner under the previous owner, and its "purdy". So now I have no excuses. Plus my wife of almost 50 years thinks I'll look "hot" in some new leathers, so there may be some fringe benefits for the old boy................
I'll keep this thread up to date just in case I need "Get well" cards and letters. I can't wait to get that puppy on the track!

Good luck with it. I have seen a few guys in their 70's out racing Trials, and I know of a few men in their 80's who still ride. So by all means go for it. Trust me you may realize that you are not the only "gray beard" in the pack.
