First off, I am in college and have a 30 minute drive there and 30 minutes back.

I've heard 2-strokes are made for throttle fluctuation (I.E. full throttle, half, none, full, none, full) like when you're riding trails.

I've heard a T500 as well as other 2-strokes can seize and lock up the engine (thus the rear tire) when the throttle is stationary for a period of time. Is this true or just. blowing smoke? (hehe.... 2-stroke joke)

Also how would the T500 handle the interstate and long trips? What's the longest trip you have taken on your T500?

Back in the day, I owned quite a few 2 stokes and the only one that ever seized up was a Hodaka that was overgeared and held at the absolute maximum rpm for about an hour.

Although my T500 is still in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery (complete engine overhaul from the crankshaft up due to old crankshaft seals) I would not hesitate to ride it anywhere after the resto is completed. IMO, make sure the oil pump is correctly adjusted and working, use a good quality synthetic oil, and go anywhere you want as often as you want, as fast as you're comfortable.

I have a 1973 T-500 that I rode about 10000 miles in the late 70's. I never had a single problem with it and it was a fun bike. I rode from Cleveland, Ohio to the Allegheny National Forest in PA. 2 or 3 times. It didn't get real good fuel mileage and remember to have injection oil with you on any trips.

Sure...throttle held open at revs that are too low...in a gear too high...you might eventually seize a T500 due to totally ham-fisted riding technique and total lack of mechanical sympathy! In good order and properly tuned a T500 can be ridden as far and as fast, presuming you are a little this side of totally insane, as you want. They were very very tough machines!

So my T500 will be perfect for school if well tuned. Cool!

So if I'm reading this right, I could ride comfortably @ 70-75 mph on a 2 day trip from central Mississippi to tip of Louisiana to tip of Tennessee and a straight shot home if I keep it mid throttle in 5th gear... right?
