I just spotted this duct tape special on eBay. Cheap, cheap, cheap -- and lots of potential for some good before and after pictures. Hey, you wouldn't even have to do much for that. How 'bout it, Mixer? It's an Illinois bike. O.K., so it is closer to me than it is to you.

Bahaha, that is awesome.
Definitely looks like a barn find; but, man, a lot of scrubbin' rust to be done there.

After a little more thought (very little) it occurs to me that this bike would be fun to try to make it safe to ride without disturbing any of its "patina" aka "rust". Maybe pack new grease in the bearings and bushings, line the fuel tank, stuff like that. Don't worry about leaking seals -- they will perpetuate the look. It would be a perfect rat bike for shows, especially if you could ride it there. Wink

Yea, the ultimate vintage Jap Rat bike! Looks like all the parts are there. This is actually a pretty complete Honda 305 scrambler. Cool lookin piece.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. When he said it turned over, I thought maybe it could be made to run, then made roadworthy without changing anything cosmetic.

With no title, I think that parting out would be much more worthwhile. Who would want to buy and ship it. Better to sell locally I think. Maybe not a lot of value in the body, but engine, seat pan etc should be somewhat valuable. Hell, just sell the seat pan and you could probably get more for it. wouldn't be surprised if someone bought it and asked him to take a few parts off and just ship those.

Absolutely - without a title it's of no value in states like Illinois or Indiana - you can forget about getting a title and riding it.
Why do you think it's so cheap? If he had a title, he'd be asking lots more.
Now if you lived in an "easy" title state, that's a different outlook.............

Fine patina like that don't come cheap. It kinda looks like those old "Round tank" bikes of the teens and 20's that bring big bucks with all the rust intact. Surely it's worth more than 10 bucks, just as a conversation piece or hanging from the shop rafters or wall. Those "American Pickers" guys would be all excited about that find!!

I think that's only "surface rust" right??? ROTFL

We scored a similar piece today....very rare and a little crusty...a Honda SL450. That's right, a 5-speed CB450 motor crammed into a SL350 frame...it's a peach, sorry, no pics boys and girls.

Mixer,

I read this and absolutely cracked up! Laughing

I just knew if I dangled that little bike under your nose, you couldn't resist. So now I need to offer some advice in case you win the auction.

#1 -- I promise not to bid against you. My wife says I am already at my mcy quota.

#2 -- Think back to when you moved to Chicago and decided to clean up the yard. Remember "clip, clip, clip, WTF I found a motorcycle"? So my advice is to remove the headlight bucket that you want, then put the rest out where you found the other bike. Let the bushes grow up around it and let the bike sit thru the coming Chicago winter to "ripen" it a bit more.

#3 -- In late spring or early summer, call the American Pickers like Rizingson suggested. They will like it better if it is surrounded by bushes and weeds, and has a little more rust.

I was over at their place last summer. Here I am parked by their old car. They need a motorcycle that isn't afraid to sit outside, and it needs to match the paint job on their car.

Here's a shot of a bike sitting inside their place on a shelf. When your bike looks like this, you should be ready to call them. One winter in Chicage should do the trick.

BTW, Mike & Frank were gone when I was there, but Danielle was in the shop. Here she is sitting on my non-Japanese bike (the CL350 wasn't running yet at that time, so I took a Harley).

Good luck bidding, and may the best man win!

p.s. you'd be better off going down I-57. Maybe I could meet you around Chambana.
