I'm new here . . .hey!! I'm getting a '71 250. Not sure if I'm going full resto or with a cafe twist?? Here's a pic of a bike I finished this summer. So what do I need to know about this new 250? Where do I get parts?. Any ideas on some older 250 parts? I like the older style shocks, speedo/headlight etc. Thanks

bulletproof design, the oil induction works WONDERFULLY so dont premix if you can verify that it works. plugs are easilly fouled out if theres a problem with the injection (too rich) or premixing, and burn like lava with too lean (as most 2strokers will) of a mix
Parts are HARD if not impossible to come by, but ebay occasionally has parts.... some weeks none, some weeks THOUSANDS. but ive been looking for a 67 complete for 8 years in a decent price range.
theres more stainless on that bike than in a kitchen, its not all chrome.
best speedo/tach combo (if youre doing a cafe) is to rob out a 67 or 68 headlight bucket, all integrated (not sure about the 71) and it cleans up the front.. (hrrrm idea for the streetfighter?) yes i know its a w-2 but i couldnt find a good pic of the 68 a1 bucket... its the same part.
badges are next to impossible to find for that bike, if you have them you have gold to a restoration.
its a peppy lil 250, bone stock (first bike i went 100+ on) and if you find expansion chambers and jet the carbs youll awaken a BEAST that will make modern 500s cry. (up to about 70)
the a1 and the a1 ss (high piper) have a lot of interchangeable parts, most anything will be a direct swap, and its easy to end up cloning the SS which was considered the more rare of the two. dont quote me on this, as it was 20 years since i owned one, but the a-7 and W2 has parts that will interchange as well (pipes included comes to mind for the a7)

it was my first bike that i could legally register on the street (title), the first bike i broke 100 with, the first bike i rode two up on, the first bike i went coast to coast on, AND the first bike that umm well... got me some attention from the fairer sex....(not the first there, just realized the power of a pretty bike
of COURSE im gonna know a thing or two about the A1 and A1ss... (mine was a 67 a1 with a 68a1ss parts bike)
oh.... and well... i love this clip out of this movie... cant find the actual movie shots tho damnit!
