well i got my new points and condensors in tonight. it still will not spark if i have the battery out. it was having one side spark without the battery when i would kick it over but now i have nothing. i do not have have sny continuity to ground from the wires going to the points when they are open which baffels me. im afraid to run the bike now becuase i do not want the coils to burn up. i had to wait 2 weeks for them and they cost 200.00

You have a bad habit of just leaving previous posts on the same subject just hanging out there and just blindly starting a new post again on the same problem. What....you want old/new readers of your posts to go back and find your old posts for you to see what info has been offered previously and on what bike? Arrogance, laziness, can't find your own posts or what? You have done this same thing several times. _________________ _________________________________

That's exactly as it should be. Points open, no ground, no current going through coil. The coil saturates when the points are closed. Opening the points then causes the coil to fire. Put a battery in the bike, make the ignition and kill switches are both on, and kick it over. BTW, make sure you've set the timing before starting.

Put a good battery (> 12 volts without a charger attached) in place and leave it there. Kick it over and check for properly timed spark at both plugs. Let's get this bike running again first. While it is running immediately check your voltage at the battery at various rpms. Let us know the results on this thread. Then you can sort out any further problems that caused a hot coil etc. A good coil will get warm under normal operation, but they only get hot if they are:
1. Already shorted out on the primary windings meaning the coil is are already bad.
2. Are oversaturated by leaving the key on while points are closed.
3. Too small of a point gap or extended dwell.
4. A short to ground between the neg side of the coil and the points.
5. To high of voltage on the primary side of coil from running with bad battery, no battery or charging system regulation problem. This is why it is important to verify voltage as soon as you get it running.
Your new coils won't be damaged if you address these issues first thing.

Holy cow, there are three separate posts in which the proper operation / current path / ground requirements of points systems are discussed.
And now here's a fourth in which the question is asked about current flow / continuity thru the points.
READ THE ADVICE YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN GIVEN IN YOUR OWN THREADS!!
