Hey Now,

I'm putting the crankcase back together today on my GT185, and I didn't see any old gasket material on either half. This was my first time taking one of these apart and the manual I have does not specify. Let me know If you have any suggestions one way or the other.

Thanks,

Dan

When you bought your gasket kit did it have a gasket for the crankcases? In general practice I usually will put some gasket sealer when I put cases back together, only because unlike british bike riders I don't like to create a oil spill.

No gasket in the set I bought, so I figure I will put a small bead around at least the outside of the the two. Good times.

Use Hondabond4, Yamabond4 or 1104 liquid gasket when putting case halves together.
Use a very fine bead all the way around, it squishes out and seals no problem.

+1 and a very small bead across the back wall of the crank chamber (two stroke) In fact you may want to lightly flatten this bead first in this area to make sure no excess sealant gets into an oil port from the tranny . In other words.....sealant where ever crankcase halves join.

Thanks for the responses, I would have sorely regretted not putting any on there.
