Hi all,
I'm running an 1100f swingarm and late model front end with the original front wheel and a later model comstar (2.5) on the rear.
If anyone has some decent looking wheels preferably in the 4.5 or 5 inch range (rear) that will work please let me know.
I'm not sure which direction to go with wheels but want something that looks decent on the bike and will work without too much fabrication. Let's face it.. 2002 z28 Camaro wheels look fine on a z28 but look like sh*t on a 57 Bel Air. I'm thinking the same on a CBX.

Thanks,

Bill

Hey 79X, KOSMAN can widen the stock Comstar, cost me $468.00 per wheel , which included shipping. This way, all of the stock equipment, hub, axle, etc., is used. I have done 5 wheels to date.

The more I do it, the less pain I feel on my wallet.. Laughing

Thanks Melchiro,

I've thought about going the Kosman route but last time I checked they're well over $600.00 and not even sure they'll go that wide. I've also heard cbr600 wheels can be adapted to fit relatively easily (not sure which brakes would be needed). Guess I'll do some more searchin..

Thats the ticket, "search". There are many threads on this subject on the 1100F.net site. 1100F swingarm, CBR F3/F2 wheels, caliper stop, axle bushing dimentions, etc. Check out Ray's(fasterspider) CBX

May I add, The biggest benefit going to a 17" F3 rear is the tire availability. Not a big selection in 18". The F3 rr, and a big 170 or 180 tire will make the bike turn predictably. For stock looks though, The Cosman whl will keep it looking original. I have the F3/F2 swap on my 900 and just an F3 rr on my 1100.(haven't got around to putting the F2 frt on yet) Remarkable handling upgrade. Ask Ray

Usually I prefer stock looking wheels but after looking up the cbr wheels on ebay, they appear pretty straightforward and look like they'll look just fine on the bike. Oviously it'll also bring the tires I can put on it into the 21st century.
I'm gonna check out the 1100f website as suggested. I'm sure fabricating some spacers and maybe a brake arm will be involved but it appears fairly straight forward. Just gotta figure out which rotors and calipers will work.

Thanks everyone!

My 79 CBX has CBR wheels, forks and brakes.

I really didn't want to change the forks though. I read somewhere (can't find it now.. might have been cbx world) that the way to go was f2 rear and f3 front or vice versa... can't remember what the difference is though

F3 rear(5"wide, fab spacers, fab caliper stop, longer brake line, you can use your rr master or change it out to the cbr rr master.) F2 front, why? because f3 frt has a magnetic pickup for the speedo and F2 frt has a conventional cable speedo drive. You will have to change either the berrings in the front whl for your axle OR change outyour frt axle. Your 81-82 forks are better than the little 79 forks. Keep reading those threads on the F site. Piece of cake swap.

The front axle can be a CBR rear axle cut down to length, threaded and capped.
