I'm looking at a 1979 DT100 near me hometown that some guy is getting rid of. He's not asking a lot and My girlfriend is looking for a small bike to ride to work on. Does anyone here have a DT100 and do you like it? I'm a Honda man at heart and have never really looked into any Yamahas. Also, it's a 2-stroke, are there laws regarding emissions regional, statewide or nationwide?

This Yamaha DT100 is an enduro bike that is made for on/off road use. It is not just a street bike and has long travel suspension. Can she touch the ground flat footed when sitting on the seat?? That is best especially for a first time rider. This has oil injection for the two stroke oil and there are no emission laws yet to prevent older 2 strokes from riding legally on the road. This bike has 6 gears and is fairly quick but may only top out at around 65 mph. If it is a long commute with freeway speeds of 70 mph + this would not be the bike to use. If it is a 4-5 mile ride at 45 mph thru the suburbs and country roads it would be great. Reliable bike for a dual purpose motorcycle. Should start easy and be fairly light.

Great bikes, light weight and fun. make sure it has all lights, signals, mirrors, working horn, street tires, or else it might not be street legal. Also, only law prohibiting two strokes is in California, otherwise your in the clear. DT100s are good for new riders because they are small, but they still have some good torque. the biggest electrical problem ive ever had with a DT100 was timing the points, and i believe by 79' they had replaced the timing system on these bikes.

Are you telling me that all the two strokes I see running around are illegal?
Very Best,
Phil (in Kalifornia)

There are thousands upon thousands of licensed two strokes in California.

I even have a 2-stroke lawnmower just to piss off Kalifornia's smog Nazis. Mix extra oil in the gas just to make extra smoke. Twisted Evil

Mark,
You can mow a lot of lawns in a hurry with your H-2
and I love the smell of racing castor in the morning.
Best,
Phil
