I just picked up a 1978 GS750. I'm hoping someone can help me out. It runs and everything was going great until I put the parking lock on. I turned the wheel all the way to the left and then turned the key all the way to the right. The wheel locked and the taillight came on as they should. But... now I can't get it unlocked, therefore I can't ride the GS. The key will not return from the far right (parking locked) to the center position (on), or left off position (off). Is there a trick to this that I'm unaware of, or is something messed up that will take some problem solving?

Thanks

Scud

Sometimes the forked is cocked such that it's putting a side-load on the lock, preventing it from returning.

or

perhaps the lock bar that pops out is slightly corroded and not wanting to return. Spritz some lube on it, and maybe tap it back into place while someone else wiggly-jiggles the key

or

do you have to press in on the key at the same time as turning it? I've had some this way...

or

hmm..... Crying or Very sad

If it has a centre-stand I'd try and get it up onto that and have some-one sit on the back of the seat so the front is carrying no load at all. You would already have got some lube into the lock itself by using the key to keep it open while you drip lube in...and as some-one else said get lube up into the locking pin.
On my GS750 there is a slight depression of the key required to get into the lock position you are jammed in so presumably it takes a slight downward pressure to turn it out of there as well.

Putting it on the center stand, WD-40 & Jiggling it, did the trick. Thanks a million!
