Thanks for the advice given in the past everyone, but I am having trouble getting this bike to stay running. It will start with the starter plunger up and will run at high rpm's until I drop the plunger, then it will die. I am trying to keep the engine running so I can then adjust the carbs for a clean run. When the bike runs I get a white cloud of smoke from the tail pipe and with the plunger down I can keep the engine running by staying on the throttle and the spark plugs are clean. I think all of this means the engine is running lean? The throttle valves are sized at 2.5 and one of them has slight scratches on the cut out edge, will this have a significant effect on the working of the carb? and is there a small "o"-ring on the air screw? Thanks for any help.

Yeah, carbs are clean. The air filter could be replaced, and I would take any suggestion to where I could find a new one. That and new clamps to fit the air boot tighter I'm hoping will make a difference.

AS FAR AS FINDING A AIR BOX LOOK ON E-BAY, IT MIGHT TAKE A WHILE BUT I HAVE FOUND ALL MY PARTS AND PIECES FOR MY 67 SUZUKI TC 250 SCRAMBLER ON E-BAY, BY THE WAY AM JUST NOW TRYING TO START HER AND WITH THE PIPES OFF I AM GETTING A WHITE OOZE FROM THE CYLINDER HEADS? IS THIS WATER? PULLED THE PLUGS ON THE CASE AND NO FLUID IN THERE, WAS IN A BARN FOR 20+ YRS. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT THIS MIGHT BE PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I THINK I NEED TO PULL THE MOTOR AND GO THROUGH IT?

Replying to Skeeter's question.Any white tending ooze is almost certainly the result of water mixing with oil. In your case probably the sludge that can accumulate inside the crankcases of a 2 stroke. It most definitely needs to be cleansed in the cases before you run it.If it is oozing from the exhaust ports then really you need at minimum to dismantle the top end down to the engine cases to even begin to have a chance of effectively getting this muck out of the motor.Pulling the plugs underneath would drain any pooling of muck but there is still the residue of stuff adhering to the various surfaces. It needs to be flushed out repeatedly with something that will wash it off and the barrels will need all of their internal passages flushed thoroughly as well. The colour of oil in the transmission will tell you whether you need to flush that chamber out as well. Again however...if it has been sitting for any significant time you should change that oil anyway.
