Just a heads up. I had to pull IM’s offline after the hosting company suspended our account for what they claim was crashing the SQL database about every hour. Seems odd to me because I wrote that script about 3 years ago and no one has ever had a problem with it except this new hosting company. Me thinks they don’t know what the F*ck they are doing and have the database configured wrong. The dude was saying his logs are full of entries that say, “delayed transaction” I asked him what the hell is a delayed transaction? And he was like “I don’t know”
At any rate I had to shut off IM’s to get them to turn us back on. I’m going to follow up on this and if it turns out they are just being a bunch of wankers I am just going to pull up stakes and move us to another provider.
They work for me, not the other way around. I wont tolerate any BS from hosting companies and this really pisses me off.
Keep you posted.

You know, if there could be an IM button next to the member name in the 'Online Now' section it would be less distracting than the constantly reloading IM box. Seemed sort of redundant to have 2 sections listing online users, too.
Just a thought. Thanks for all your work!

Unfortunately it has to keep reloading. That's it checking who is online at the moment and trying to route messages. The who's online thing is really inacurate to the tune of about 15 minutes. I have looked for a better solution over the years but this is the only way to do it without someone having to install some sort of extra software on their machine. _________________ 78 Honda GL1000

Understood Dave and thanks....
Might be on to something there Ray....would a blocked message count as a 'Delayed Transaction'?? Perhaps.. _________________ 81 CB900c |

Nah it’s not that. Those messages just get stored till the next time you are ready to get them. I think these idiots just don’t know how to read their own log files and they are just having a knee jerk reaction. We are fine; the site was down for probably less than 5 minutes while I got these yoyos to turn things back on. It just pisses me off that they pulled that crap. I could understand if we were on a cheap shared hosting plan but we are on a semi-dedicated server and I don’t want to hear any flack about actually using the resources that I am paying them to provide.
I don’t care, Ill yank us off here in a heartbeat if they get in my face and I am already looking at fully dedicated server plans. Like I said before, they work for me. I don’t work for them. If I want any shit out of them Ill squeeze their heads.
Cheers,

OK guys and gals I just put in a new IM system today that should keep the fashion police off our butts. It’s actually pretty nice because it keeps a running history as you talk back and forth in an IM session. It also supports smiles, bbcode and you can setup buddy lists or ignore lists. Check it out, beat it up and tell me what you think. It’s got one thing that I find sort of annoying. When you kick off an IM session it redirects you to a page that tells you that you started an IM session and that if the popup box didn’t open to turn off your popup blocker. (duh) If its too annoying Ill probably get rid of that “feature” but then again it might be good for the n00bs.
Cheers,

Irfan had an IM module, I don't know if you've seen it. I'll try your new one later, thanks. _________________ |

Haven’t heard of that one yet. If you can, post a link I would be interested in checking it out. The way I figure it we should run the best things we can get our hands on. I'm not partial to anything in particular. _________________ 78 Honda GL1000
