This is just a poll to see how many of you are wearing helmets. Or not.
Seeing that our bikes are older, and most of the riders are usually older, it's common to see you guys out there without helmets. Some people think it is a style clash to wear a helmet on an old bike.
Whatever it is, list your reasons here. Maybe we can get some of you to start wearing them.

Every day......I use my Wing to commute daily and you need to wear a helmet in the socialist republic of CA anyway. I choose to wear my helmet in non-helmet law states as well.

Another can opened. I always wear a helmet, both because the law says I have to and because I have been motorcycling for 35 years and know first hand how quickly weird things can happen on two wheels. Animals, painted lines, tires and chains breaking, the list goes on. I wear an open face when I ride a bike with a windshield and a full face when there is no windshield.

I always wear a full-face helmet and full body armor. It paid off back in June when a phone whale locked up the brakes in front of me because he missed his freeway exit. Even with the protective gear I came out of it with a Subdural hematoma and permanent nerve damage in my back. Take my word for it folks getting pushed into the emergency ward on a gurney while they cut your clothes off is no picnic and the thought of them drilling holes in your head to drain the blood is not fun. The protective gear saved my life that day. Wear your helmet and a full faced one at that. The pavement doesn't care what sort of bike you have. Much of the damage on my helmet was in the front chin area and that could have been my face and thousands of dollars of reconstructuve surgery. Think about it, Do you want to look period or cool? Or do you want to live?

Cheers,

Dave.

Absolutly Dave, I wear the proper ppe whenever I do anything that requires it. Bike, race car, pit crew, chain saw, weed whip, shooting, you name it. When I was young I was invincable(yah right) But I still wore the right gear. Now I am NOT invicable and I wear it with pride

I've always worn a helmet, and a full-face after wrecking my YR2C back in 1973. The helmet saved my life, but the facial reconstruction I needed afterwards convinced me that the then-new full-face helmets were the way to go.

Wearing a helmet is the law here and it is common sense with smart motorcycle riders.
Natural selection takes those idiots that do not wear helmets.
I did a faceplant into the side of a Bronco II while riding my red&white CB1123 Super F on March 4th 2007 wearing my Rodia Modular helmet and suffered no head injuries or brain damage from that collision.
Don't be a smart ass, I said from that collision Razz
When I lived in Phoenix and went to MMI, 6 guys I knew died from motorcycle accidents not wearing helmets and the 7th guy had 23 fractures in his skull and his woman was paralyzed.
When I was younger and a lot more ignorant than I am now, helmets were a hinderance.
Now, I wear my helmet with pride. Cool
And there is no way on this planet that I would donate my organs to anyone. I do not care if someone would be helped, the world is too crowded and the weak or dis-abled should be exterminated and put out of my misery.

A few years ago I bought a BMW F650 in Florida, on Ebay. I flew there and rode it back to Massachusetts. Before riding it back I decided to go to Key West, though. On the Keys I took my helmet off and while passing a car, my eyeglasses flew off my face. I had to ride back to MA without them. Not a nice experience.

My helmet if a Nolan N10, a flip up. After going face down on the asphalt during an accident (the flip up was luckily closed and locked) I wear it almost always closed.

BTW, even the best helmet will protect you from hitting your head up to 30/35mph (which is the vertical speed you get from falling head down), meaning, do not count on it when hitting a sidewalk's edge Smile

If I'm going any more than a few blocks, I wear a helmet. You don't have to wear one in Texas and sometimes I don't. Twisted Evil

Stats show that most accidents happen in a 2 mile radius from your home.
That's why I keep my domicile in Italy Smile

One good thing is I can make my own choice in Texas to wear one or not and I don't understand why any one would have a problem with that. 95 percent of the time I wear one. The other 5 I don't. I don't understand why anyone would insult someone for not wearing a helmet. Explain it to me. Natural selection indeed. LOL

Helmet or no helmet is a choice, and ONLY a choice, that some of us fought hard for, or to keep!
"Let Those Who Ride Decide!" If on a 'big' road I wear one, on a 'skinny' road I don't.
I can go around the web and find you just as many pics of dead bikers wearing helmets as not.
Those of us who believe in a greater power know, if it's your turn to go.... no helmet will save you.
And, if it's not your turn, when the dust clears you will still be here.
I had and rode whizzers when I was a teenager. Got my first motorcycle at 16.
Which is to say I've been in the wind for over 40yrs. Never got a scar from it yet.
However, my appendix ruptured when I was 14.... survived. with a scar
I got shot deer hunting at 16...survived. with a LOT of scars
Crashed 2 wheelers...... walked away.
Served in the Marines..... survived.
Buried my father for no apparant reason when he was 46.
Buried my oldest son when he was 12. HE was an organ donor.
SO, call me an organ donor if you choose, but in the end......... it's your opinion.
And I'm sure you know what they say about opinions......
Opinions and 'buttholes'...... everybody has one.
And I've NEVER made a decision in my life based on someone elses opinion. And NEVER will.
Ride Safe
Vern

When your number is up, time to go! Just heard about a lady fishing when a 75 pound ray jumped out of the water and struck her in the head. Killed her dead!

Anything a person can do to reduce the risk of injury is smart. You were given the right to decide your own path in life.

Cool
