Hi Guys,
I am about to restore a 1967 Yamaha YCS1 180 Bonanza and I need to know if anyone out there that has a shop manual and wiring diagram for this bike? All the parts are there and it looks very promising. Also, are there any problems associated with this bike that I should be aware of? Also, what is the difference between a YCS1 and a YCS1C?
Thanks in advance.
Bob Thomas

From a parts standpoint not much. But there are some guys here who can probably tell you all the variations between the two versions. My view of not much is because I am a parts guy, pure and simple.

I have a YCS1C but its a back burner project. Anyway the "C" at the end of a yamaha model in the sixties (beginning with the YDS3C "Big Bear" in '65) stood for the "scrambler" version of the bike. There are many variations as to the extent of differences between street bikes and scramblers among the big four Japanese manufacturers. Most common is high pipes, tire thread pattern, gearing, ground clearance, motor protecion/skid plate, handlebar bracing and a stiffer suspension. Before the introduction of the Enduro (a real dirt bike) in '68, scramblers were often advertised as having off road capability. That was pure nonsense, as a gravel road was about as rough as it could handle well, mainly due to the weight.

Would anyone out there happen to know where I can get a set of handgrips for this bike? The PO put a set of the big foam grips on it and they are all rotted off.

Anyone know what paint to use for the motor on this bike? Getting ready for assembly.
Thanks,
Bob

Grips are here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-YDS5-YM2-YR1-YR2-YCS1-YAS1-NOS-handlebar-grips-/200487577505?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2eadfda7a1

This guy can be a huge wealth of info for you.

Float level for 20mm carbs with one piece floats only - 21.7mm
I don't have specs for the early 18mm carbs.

You should get yourself a parts book and microfiche.... the Microfiche has all the service bulletins too.

Silver engine paint..... GM paint code 13S is pretty close.

Good Luck,

Ivan

Hi all,
New problem. The owner of the Bonanza I am restoring just bought a new jug for the motor. When I got it it is the 5 port type. In my parts manual it says I need to get a 5 port type Keystone piston and rings for this jug. There are a lot of pistons on Ebay but how do I know to get the right one? Is there a specific part number? It is all down to assembly now. Frame and parts have been powder coated and all others have been painted. Got the chrome back from Proctors in Muskegon and it looks spectacular. This bike is going to look beautiful.

Do you have the original pistons? Without me doing a search of parts numbers, if I had a picture I can probably match them up to the YCS1 pistons I got here. I would suggest you check the middle number in the part number sequence. The first number is the model code, the second number is the part #, and that is going to be the key for you.

The pistons in the motor are stock. The owner bought the new jug cause the old one had busted
Fins on it.

I didn't get your PM but I do have some information for you. You are correct when that with a 5 port type cylinder only pistons and rings for this type of cylinder will work. Anything with a 237 Yamaha model code will work. I also believe I have some pistons and rings for this type. I also have the older type which will have the model code of 193.
