Good day...Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Tim and I just bought a 1971 cb450. (Why does this sound like an AA meeting?) The bike is complete, in great shape and just needs some carb attention to be reliable rider. I've had a few bikes in my past: started out on a '73 XL250 in jr. high--crashed, had a '78 XL350--too much work, and most recently had a '00 ZRX1100--too many visions of death due to the bike's possibilities far exceeding my capabilities. Anyway, I bought this bike to clean up over the winter and commute with next summer.

If anyone has any general advice or experience with this model's characteristics, let me know. By the way, I am looking for a more OE seat for the bike. Anyone have a lead?

Thanks!

Welcome to the VJMOG forum upnorth. I am from the state of SD originally also (grew up on a farm near Hurley).
I don't have a '71 CB450 but have the same year CL450 as well as a '66 bomber. That bike should make a great commuter. If it's been sitting long make sure the tires aren't dryrotted and the brakes are good, as my CL450 tried to kill me when the both rear brake shoes came unbonded, locking the wheel instantly.
Post some pics when you can. We like that!
