Hello, I'm a new member with a new project bike who is glad to have found this site.
I can tell from lurking that you have some motorcycle wizards here.

I just aquired a 1977 A100 with 2600mi. its in great shape, well that is it looks good, but it no run.
No spark......cleaned & gapped points, checked out the usual suspects, loose wires, kill switch etc.
I can see evidence where someone else has traveled this same electrical path before me.
This brings me to the ignition coil. Can it be tested with a multimeter?
I have ordered a new coil from ebay China, so I'm lookin a several weeks of waitin.
Any ideas of what to check would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill

Known good battery? Even if new? Checked for electrical continuity when points are closed? Here is one way to check the coil...checking the resistance with the mutimeter at the ohms setting. You need to find what range specs are applicable to your 6 volt coil. I tried to find your coil specs for a few minutes but have not found them yet. The people you bought the new coil that you are waiting on could of course find out from their supplier what the specs are and the seller may even know. Could not hurt to email and ask him.

I am not so sure that 8200 ohms on the secondary indicates a bad coil. Those numbers above in the chart are for the 12 volt larger bikes as indicated in the drawing. Also, have you checked to see the the insulating washers on the breaker points are in good shape? Solid mounting on the breaker plate? Condenser?

A bad condenser will cause a no spark condition also. You can use a 6 volt universal colt from an auto parts store 2C

Thanks again guys. I took the condenser off bike and it tested bad.

I'll keep y'all posted as I continue to investigate the case of the missing spark.

Here is the result of a hurry up search for a wiring diagram in case you do not have one.

EDIT: hhhmmmm....maybe I am not in such a hurry now that I start looking around the forum the wiring diagram came from. Interesting.. Wink
