Ive had this thing forever and I finally came up with a reason to tear it apart and do it up properly. It was pretty rigged and nasty when I got it, but had good potential.

When I got it: Not bad for $100

Spray paint on everything, even decent chrome!

Just some dirty before pics

Look at this wiring

turned the frame on the side to get engine out and there was some nasty water in there. Since its been in a garage for 3 years, who knows how longs its been there!

grease, oil, and peeling spray paint from leaking gas

The wiring work

Organized Chaos

Got some new pod Filters

Used a Parts cleaner and cleaned all the hard parts. Then painted everything with gloss black enamel to hold up against heat and gasoline.

Now Inside of clutch cover

Shocks cleaned up

Pieced together a taillight, lens, bracket, etc. This wasn't easy.

Previously had to twist some wires together to turn it on, now its got a true ignition

Striped all the paint off the engine and polished mildly. Nice Black frame and swingarm.

Had Mike Wells Racing go through the engine. Got new piston, new rings, new head and valves, Cam-chain, roller and tensioner, shifter shaft.
New Fork seals.
I also go new pod filters, rebuilt carbs, brand new XS Yamaha coils and NGK performance wires.
Rewired the wireharness.
New throttle cable.
Cleaned and repaired all other cables.
New header and cleaned and fixed exhaust.
Cleaned and repacked steering head bearing and swing arm bushings.

Rattle can paint job in the garage.

New stator cover, needed to polish out the corrosion.

Done:

New rear red lenses instead of yellow

Now my favorite picture of all:

Happy Fathers Day!

I guess he likes it!

Nevermind the squid-wear, he had to ride it right away Laughing

That is a beautiful bike. Your father looks stoked! Great job!

I'm also interested in the cleanup of the shocks. I use Oxalic acid powder bathes to clean up chrome. Is there a problem immersing shocks in a water/OA bath?

I love the work you have done...polishing it is great !
I need a Nice front wheel for my K4 & I've been looking for a LONG time (almost 2 months) &
thought I would ask if you have another one almost as nice as yours that would be able to clean
up w/ out much rust...NICE would be best.
Thanks,
Bill

Still running well. One issue, the shifter does not want to return to nuetral position between shifts (not neutral as in gear, ie b/w 1-2) So in order to downshift more than once you have to blip the shifter up with you toe to get it to return so you can depress it again to downshift another gear.
Ive looked at the parts diagram and there are 2 springs which I believe are culprits. One more than the other. Anyone have this issue?

Part #3 is your issue. It has to be installed with the legs on the shift spindle hook and pushed over part #10.
