I really hope you guys are right. The VJMC deserves a
successful National event but we have now made other plans
due to the lack of interest..
Steve may very well be correct when he wrote "I'm afraid that
most people don't know that this forum exists." But what concerns
us was that most people do not know that the host hotel exists
either.
When we cancelled our room yesterday the young man
said they had 11 rooms out of 35 still open , just three days before
the event starts. We couldn't even sell out a small 35 room motel?
Have a good time. We just can't take a chance with our vacation
time or the costs of a 1,400 mile round trip drive, especially after
only three of us replied on any VJMC forum that we were even going.
Our own area VJMC representative told us HE is NOT going and when
we were trying to decide about cancelling we made a search of
our event through Google and found nothing. No other forum is
talking about it either. Not one word on any other forum?

Great Steve. What bikes??? The bike I will be riding in the tiddler and field games is a Blue 1978 Kawasaki KZ200 with 800 miles on her. I am taking my original race bike 1974 Honda Elsinore 125 with trophies. Hope this is received well. I will be riding my 1983 GL1100 naked and hope to meet you guys at Doc Speed's in Hubbard Lake. Do you have a cell, I might need to call you Wed. morning to get directions to Bill Melvins place in Hubbard Lake. My RD350 will be in the show. Make sure and introduce yourself!! See you next week.

Lorraine, I understand. I did not go to Tennessee last year because the price of gas, etc. It is all a matter of how high of a priority everyone places on their fun. I very much understand. It is so difficult to please all of the people all of the time. And a large club such as this one has so many diverse personalities that it can be difficult to organize such an event. We all will continue to do the best we can with the resources we have and not let club "stuff" get in the way of being passionate about vintage japanese motorcycles. Please help me get this forum going by letting members know about it and post messages. This could be great and it may take some time. I have been on year almost one year. Thanks, What kind of bikes do you have??
I'm bringing my '73 Honda CB350F which is my daily rider that I have put almost 9K miles on in the last year and my wife's '78 Honda CB400A. My trip to Oak Ridge for last years rally was my first and enjoyed the heck out of it. So this year I'm doing the whole deal. I'm going to be at the resort hopefully around noon on the 27th. My cell is (615) 207-0184, don't know how much help I can be but I do have a GPS and can do a look up if you get lost.

Hi guys, my dad and I will be there too. We'll be taking our 3 CB450D models (one of each color), a CB450K1, a Honda P50, a CB77, a CA77 and maybe a few other bikes. We'll arrive Wednesday evening, the 30th. It sounds like it's going to be a pretty good time. Another reason the lodge probably isn't sold out is alot of people don't plan to stay the entire 3 or 4 days (a requirement for booking the lodge.) We actually wanted to camp, but the closest campground is about 7 miles away - so we chose the lodge. We plan on doing alot of road riding and just hanging out and having a good time.

Sorry I didn't make your ride August 6, it was our church picnic and my wife..... you know. Anyway, make sure you introduce yourself to me. I plan on riding a lot too and will bring my county map. I am originally from Manistee/Ludington so know the area pretty well. Let's ride together one day. I challenge you to the field events, should be fun. I will be driving a red Silverado and will have my naked GL1100 and blue KZ200. Can't wait to meet you guys. (I will be there Wed. evening as well.) This is what this forum is supposed to be about. GREAT.

We were going for the day to the Rally in Northern Michigan when we left Hamilton, Ohio yesterday,
(Friday) late afternoon. Traffic was stop and go 240 miles from the event on I-75. After a 2 hour delay,
due to an accident, near the I275 split and the tremendous Labor Day traffic everywhere, we turned around.
Never seen such traffic congestion but then again we have never headed north
in Michigan on a summer Holiday weekend either. Got to stay away from those
holiday weekends next time!
That stinks! I just got back. Non-stop action the whole time. Beautiful weather. We did need more Yamaha's there. I will write a comprehensive report later about all of the events at this years nationals. WOW, it was great.

My dad and I couldn't stop talking about the rally all the way home, that is how great it was. There were so many options for activities, we met alot of super people and made many new friends. The weather couldn't have been any better, mid-70's the entire time and NO RAIN! For those of you that couldn't make it or decided not to, you missed an awesome event. We're already looking forward to next year. By the way, Steve, better get that "smoking" KZ200 fixed...next time I'm going to bump draft you!

While I am in there fixing the rings on the KZ200 I might as well bore it out to a 250cc and put a cam in it. I think Norm knows where I can get a cam. Then I will be able to blow Hondas away. (Or just eat some more Chili for an extra boost.) What a great time we had at the rally. I may need some dream parts so now I know where to get them. Talk to you guys soon, Steve.

What a great time! The pre-ride up to the UP was excellent. They went thru the tunnel of trees on M-119 to the big Mackinaw bridge, to the Soo Locks back down to Doc Speed Bill Melvin's museum and then onto Cadillac. 750 miles total. The next day some of us went to Silver Lake Dunes rides via Ludington beach. Others went to Hartwick Pines museum. Friday started with field games. The stories will be told for years. Friday was also a day for more rides, either with small bikes to the Dublin Jerky store or to the Sleeping Bear sand dunes in Traverse City. Saturday the bike show was fantastic as well as the ride thru time event. The banquet meal was awesome with beef, pork and chocolate cake. Scott Timoff presented prizes and summarized the near perfect event.

We drove to the AMCA Big One at Davenport along with 15,000 other
folks. AMCA had over 450 booths and sales areas open all day long,
offering everything in antique parts and bikes. Never seen so many parts!
But we wish we could have gone to VJMC too.
Steve Searles, you were there, how many members/people actually
went to VJMC and how many booths were set up for bike/part sales
over the week?
Two guys from our area went to VJMC and told us last night that only
around 50 people even went and less than 3 booths were set up?

Scott Timoff said that around 85 or so actually registered for the National Event this year. That is down from 180 at Oak Ridge last year. I also don't think the national is for swap meet purposes but I could be mistaken. I did see one guy with a tarp of parts. The riding was awesome, great bike shows and field games and comraderie. I do have an "opinion" about a Northern Michigan location however. Just think, nearly everyone has to drive in one direction, north. Locating the national a little more central U.S. will draw from all 4 directions and increase attendance. I think everyone who attended had a great time. Hope to meet you next year.

Where is the event next year?
You are right. We would have had to drive within 12 miles
of Davenport, and the AMCA's 35th Annual Big One, just
to get to Upper Lower Michigan this year. Driving another
8 hours, each way, in the Labor Day Holiday traffic around
Chicago would have made zero sense.
A more central VJMC location would be a plus, then maybe
the majority of the VJMC officers would attend also.
