can any one tell me if my brake light is suppose to come on when i use my front brakes. if so can some one give me a break down as to what to look for. my rear brake lights up the tail light but not the front, i don't see any wires or any thing that would sugjest that the front brake would make the tail light come on. my buddy wants to use it for his road test and they told him that both front and rear brakes must light up. any help is great. i have ordered some manuals but i could not wait for them, i had to start tearing into this thing. Very Happy

Front brake levers did not light the brake light back in '66 on the YL1
Honda started having that feature in '68 on some models. Not sure when Yamaha did, but would think it was also the same time due to DOT requirements.

The brake light only lights when you use the rear brake. that is why your hand signals are used: left turn, right turn and slow or stop. The bike is a 1966 therefore is exempt from that requiement as well as the turn signal requirment. the tester should know that. Beat

It was in 1967-1968 when the Japanese companies started to do that in response to the DOT requirements in the United States. Just like the turn signals becameing standard around that time also. Your friend is better off using a newer bike for his test, as most instructors are completely ignorant of old bikes.
