| Ok as alot of you know I'm restoring a 1980 ts 185. I have good spark, I took off and cleaned the carb inside and out. Drained and put fresh gas in the tank. The engine turns over, I made sure I have gas in the bowl but I still cant get this engine to start. What am I missing??? |

The big three. 1. Compression??What is the PSI? #2. Spark. Is the spark in the right spot. 3. Fuel. Use starting fluid to see if it will fire. You just need a few sputters to see if the thing will run. Later; crank seals may keep it from sucking fuel in from the carb, who knows. New spark plug for sure. Two strokes flood and wet plugs constantly. If you have a wet plug it will not start! _________________ You only go around once in life, but if you do it right, once is enough! |

As Steve said, check the compression.
I'm in Davisburg so very close. Sent you a PM with my phone number. Give me a call and I'll talk you thru a few things to check. |

| Yeah it's a brand new spark plug. I'll try the starter fluid first. Where do I spray it in at, in the head or through the carb? |

Carb first with throttle open, spark plug hole last if all else fails. _________________ You only go around once in life, but if you do it right, once is enough! |

Ok so let me see if I get this right. Open the throttle all the way, spray in stater fluid, and give it a few kicks to see if that works. If that dosn't work then try right in where the spark plug sits?
By the way can anyone tell me what the correct gap is for the 1980 TS185. Better make sure that is correct also. Ah the joys of restoring a 30 year old bike, sometimes it just makes you want to put your head through a wall |
