| Trust him, he knows what went on in the dealerships back in the 70's. Personally, never take possesion of a bike unless you have the title or ownership papers.

| And if the bike only has 9000 mi on it and has been garaged, you probably don't have much to 'rebuild', only freshening up and a good maintenance once over.

It is good you did not pay first. Hopefully, she will find the title, the Bi-Centennial paperwork, and the BS Bikegeezer is referring to will be her Bachelor of Science degree. (Steve, Mount Fuji erupted in the 1700's -nothing noteworthy in Japan in 1776).
If not:
Can you check with motor vehicles and see if it is in her name? They most likely will not tell you whose it is but they might say "yes" if you give them a last name. If you can do a duplicate title, I suggest doing as much of the paperwork transfer as possible. Pay the fees also if it is worth it to you.
Do you know anyone who can see if there is a motor vehicle record or title using the VIN #?
Does Minnesota have a form for looking up a vehicle history?
This may not be the case but I know someone who has picked up several bargains from wives who wanted to get rid of the ex's stuff. He gets the title, she gets the shaft (or chain ) drive!

This was my 1978 KZ1000A that I tricked out with mag wheels and an LTD seat. Which Windjammer does it have on it? A 1982 CB900C is my recent purchase replacement. Got pics??

the P O took care of getting the title straightened out and it is in my name now. It's totally disassembled and shelved the eng is on my bench and I am starting to restore it to original, looks like I can order everything I need online. Any tips from those of you who have been there, thanks. I am going to loose the windjammer, luggage rack and the backrest. bye

| Nice bike.If it really is as close to new mechanically as 9,000 miles would suggest you may find you want to ride it, and ride it some more. Don't throw away/sell the rack and fairing. They are a damn good thing to have on such a bike when it is actually being used out on the open road.

On the other hand, there might be a real good reason why the bike was laid up at 9,000 miles. I think I would have at least done a compression check and checked to see if it grabbed all 5 gears before pulling it out of the frame.
Get yourself some polish for the frame and paint and #000 steel wool for the chrome. You might find you can massage the whole bike back into respectable shape without much expense. Oh yeah - buy a 5 gallon bucket of elbow grease.
