Mixer, I blame you for this one..... Twisted Evil I have watched your recent posts on your projects and obviously your sickness is contagious.

Winter is coming and the desire to spanner is getting stronger so a new project is in order.

Picked this up yesterday. The guy had it for 18 months but time and money were against him so he sold it as an "ongoing" project.

Started life as an imported KZ650. Headstock has been raked by 4 degrees and R1 forks, yokes, rear end, and wheels fitted. Frame strengthened and welded to fit monoshock mounting bracket. So rolling chassis is sort of there. Engine is an empty shell that has been blasted ready for paint. The rest of it is in the buckets and boxes (all there apparently) Waiting for an opportunity to go through the "jigsaw" and come up with a shopping list. Maybe then I will have a better idea which direction to head in.

Not a bad start but a long, long way to go to finish this one.

I can`t wait Very Happy

Regards

Tim

HEH another one is infected! now im not so lonely!

OH MY! that is looking good!
how low is the seat (inches preferably, but i can make a conversion) believe it or not, ive got a chance to get FZ600 front end (ready to install in the seca) and swingarm/rear setup. for 400 looking at this.. wow yeah!
do me a solid and send me a pic of how the suspension is setup for the upper link and the dogbone mouting. the seca is turning into the wife's toy, we're looking into a bratstyle just to go different than most, with the monoshock it looks GOOD!

That will be one awesome ride when its done, too bad you live on the other side of the pond, it'd be great to get a chance to ride each others bikes when theyre both done!

mine? oh thats called "removal of rear tire via horsepower!"

LOL i had circa 02 tires (hardened) on my ducati, and decided to "knock the crust off" at a local bike night before i tore the rear end apart (chain sprockets tire, powdercoat swingarm rearsets passenger pegs and brake hanger).

dont try this at home.. ok... better at home than at a local bike night... cops were called, bike had to be trucked home (blew it out) almost launched it into the bar when the tire blew, and almost got a drunk driver out of it. picture made thunder roads magazine though!
a week later, on 3 hrs sleep, i rolled it back out with all the upgrades listed above to go BACK to the same bike night, and the cops were WAITING for me to do something stupid....

ill put the full size ones in my ducati photobucket

Nothing much to report at the moment. Have gone through the boxes of parts to see what is and isn`t there. When the PO said he had stripped the engine he wasn`t joking! Yikes Lots and lots of bags of bits........would have been nice if they were identified but .......hey ho....... shake

To be honest, I am looking around for a donor motor of larger capacity at the moment and am trying to find a "full set" ie. engine, carbs and loom to bump start the project.

Time is an issue at the moment, or rather lack of it. The old catch 22, lots of work which we need to make the money to build the project but too busy working to find the time to start the project!

Have sourced most of the parts to complete the front and rear, discs, calipers and such like and regularly trawl through ebay for inspiration and ideas.

Still not really sure of the direction this one is going yet but I am leaning towards drag/sprint style......long and low with "maximum" bangs for bucks. leno

Only good thing is that there is no rush to complete this one, so slowly goes it (at least for now)

Regards

Tim bike

Hi all,

Quick "non" update. Sold the original Z650 "jigsaw" motor on as just do not have the time to dedicate to a full rebuild. In its place I picked up a complete XJ600 engine and carbs.

I have been collecting various parts over the last few weeks and now have just about everything I need, bar clocks.

I am basically at a point now where I can start rough assembling the bike and sort out engine mounts and the like, just trying to find the time to get stuck in and do it.

Slowly we move forward.....very slowly.

Regards

Tim bike
