I finally got off my ass to drop my bike off at "The Honda Doctor" today so I could get a good once over, safety inspection and tune-up.

Walking around there I saw so many cool old bikes that they have restored there it was sick. Couple of really solid Superhawk's that made me want to crack my piggy bank. I really like those shiny tanks!

Looks like I am going to get my skull just slightly cracked by the service bill. It will be worth it though. It's going to get handled properly upfront so I know I am not riding a deathtrap. Then I can start breaking stuff on my own. This is also a great incentive for me to get to learning how to do this stuff myself.

Hey- it sounds like we are in the same boat. I've been tooling around with my 550 for awhile now before I take it on for a once over and tune up. I too want to make sure I'm not riding a death trap. I've never taken a motorcycle in to a mechanic yet- if you don't mind me asking- how much is a job like this going to cost you? I don't want to get ripped off although the place I'm going to go seems like a real stand up place. The mechanic in the back has been working on them for 30 or more years and even had training in Japan. They let you go ask him for questions and he doesn't seem to mind answering them.

You are very fortunate. Back when I first started, I was on my own. But luckily a few years later I found a great shop where I learned how to make cables, etc. and I got to meet a former factory trained Kawasaki Mechanic. Even tho I am into Hondas it helped me out a lot when I was learning how to work on my first bike.

Well, you took it to the right place. Phil (the bald guy) knows his stuff. He does good work, and is willing to offer free advise (be it good or bad Smile ). I go there for all my motorcycles needs or just to hang out.

The Honda Doctor did indeed take care of me. Stand up guys there. They did indeed tell me what I "needed" to hear vs. what I "wanted" to hear and that is important to me. They didn't even mind me loitering while I waited for a AAA tow truck to come take the bike home (seemed like a good idea since I have the coverage and no cycle endorsement).

Bike is running like a really well. Now I just need to free up a little time to actually get my endorsement so I can do more than tool around the neighborhood. I hate the Secretary of State office.

Saw a 350 they were working on last week. Was that yours? Looks like they were about to put a new front tire on the bike I saw.
