I'm having a pretty hard time finding the head bolt torque specification for my bike 1975 Kawasaki F7 175cc two-stroke.
I just took the head and jug off and put a new top end gasket set in there to fix the leaky old gasket.

I called a few places around town, even the Kawasaki dealership a couple towns over...no luck. Dealership had old manuals on microfilm, but couldn't find F7 or something...
Then i downloaded a shop manual for it from this forum(thanks very much by the way!) but it's kinda hard to decipher what the exact specification is supposed to be. It says 18Ft-lbs for head bolts, but it doesn't say that in the cylinder head chapter of the manual(it says refer to page VI-3 for head bolt torque specs(which doesn't exist....)), but i was kinda thinking it would be higher than that, but i'm not quite sure.

Thanks for any help or info whatsoever!,
-Riley

I'm not sure of the technical name for them, but they are basically bolts with a smooth outside and have the threads on the inside which thread over studs that extend from the engine block.

Just like this...

Thanks very much for the help!

What you have pictured are 'nuts' sometimes referred to as large nuts. Not pictured are the washers and lock washers. Original size for the studs on the F7 are 8mm. F8 would have 10mm studs and nuts would be torqued to 25 ft. lbs. But again that is for 10mm studs. You should have 8mm studs. See reference to torque specs. below on page 96, third paragraph. The reference to the specs on the F7 say 'bolts' (misprint?) ...(Clymer)which you do not have and calls for 14 ft. lbs. If it were me I would tighten the nuts you have to 14 - I guess maybe up to 18 ft. lbs. from what you have seen in another manual you saw....up to you or until you find out different. You should re torque the head one time after a few rides anyway should you decide to go with the lower torque spec. All specs is assuming the studs are the original 8mm and all threads on nuts and studs are nice and clean. Looks like until you find a manual you you have high confidence in it is just going to have to be your call. Good luck

14-18 ft./lbs. is about right for anything threaded in 8mm. Cool
