Hopefully, he and the new VJMC Board Of Directors will see the wisdom in moving our National Event to our own weekend and away from Labor Day, so it won't conflict with the AMCA's 35th "Big One" and keep us clear of the traffic mess of the last summer holiday on Michigan roads.
There is no reason for us to go head-to-head with the AMCA when we have 8 months to work with. They have had that traditional weekend for 35 years in a row and it's closer for folks in SW Michigan to drive to the AMCA's "Big One" in Davenport, than to drive to Northern Michigan. Let our members have the chance to attend both!

I would love to go but I guess not this year. I am sure I will meet you guys eventually. I am the field rep. for the Battle Creek area. You should definetly go to Grattan this year with us. It is a blast. We even get to take a couple laps on the track on Sunday.

It's just a shame they couldn't have scheduled the 2006 VJMC National event in Michigan, one week earlier, or later, so we could also go to the Annual AMCA's Giant 35th "Big One."
Especially since the AMCA's event has had that same traditional weekend date, for three decades and it's only a couple of hours away from Michigan.
We didn't have to be forced to choose one over the other.

Ok, finally got the boss to say "Yes, you can have the last week of August off". I immediatly sprung into action, the registration forms have been mailed, called the resort and made my reservation (There was still room!) for the whole week! I'm looking forward to all the activities. Hope to see the people again that I met at last years rally and looking forward to meeting some new friends. See ya' there!

Steve Adams was absolutely right, rooms are still available, no problem.
We called the Caberfae Peaks motel today, July 26, to make our reservations too and we got a room no problem, at the 65 room motel, which is the host motel for the National VJMC get together Labor Day weekend.
The reservation lady told us the hotel was "wide open" with 32 rooms left? Where is everybody staying? Kind of weird that only four weeks before the event, so few of us have even made reservations?
It did kind of stink that we HAD to reserve the room for a MINIMUM of three nights, when we only wanted to stay two nights. Maybe the other folks are staying farther away at places that don't have a three night minimum.
But we did expected a lot more people would have rooms by now.

Hey everybody, our own VJMC national event is now only three weeks
away and we need to get going on room reservations and travel plans.
We called the Caberfae Peaks hotel this morning - Caberfae Peaks,
Cadillac, MI 49601 231-862-3000 - and the Reservations fellow
said the hotel was still "wide open" for our event and they were
"surprised" by the low turnout so far.
Come on everybody, only 28 rooms reserved, at the host hotel,
just three weeks before our National event? What's that mean?
Maybe it's just the high heat that is slowing everybody down, or other
attractions, like Davenport, or maybe holiday family commitments are drawing
folks away that weekend, but we can do better than this.
Posted: Fri Aug 11, 2006 9:09 pm Post subject: Is anybody going to the VJMC National event?
O.K., I have to ask ... is anybody else going to the National event in
Northern Michigan in two weeks?
I called the host hotel tonight and found out that since my last post,
ten dalys ago, only 3 other people have made a reservation for the event.
The hotel is disappointed and there are still plenty of rooms open
so please call them. Guess they were promised a sell out.
If your planning on making the drive to Michigan on Labor Day weekend,
how about posting here?
Hate to think only a handful of members are going, but its like
it isn't even coming up.
Posted: Fri Aug 18, 2006 2:46 pm Post subject: Sorry ....
A week ago, I asked for VJMC folks who were heading
to the VJMC National event, in Northern Michigan, like us to make a
post so we had some idea who we would be meeting.
I hoped to stir some interest in our annual event.
A week later and not ONE other person has indicated they
were going. Not one.
Maybe there is no interest because somebody decided to
hold our National event on the last summer Holiday weekend.
My husband says it may be because it is being held on the very
same weekend as the A.M.C.A.'s "Big One" vintage bike
show & races in Davenport, Iowa. Why did we do that? I
don't know.
But for whatever reason, I can't tell that anybody else is going
and the little 35 room host hotel, at the event location, still has
"plenty of rooms" open today, August 18th.

Of course I am going and bringing at least 4 bikes, maybe more. I am looking forward to the tiddler rides, off road rides, field games and bike shows. Lorraine, the deal is that not many members are using this forum. There is amother mode of communication thru email and most of the officers use that one. I have been trying to get this forum going but ..... The national rally should be awesome and Scott Timoff (MI rep.) and others are organizing as we speak. See you there.
I'm coming also, leaving Saturday heading north from Tennessee looking at an 11+ hour trip bringing 2 bikes. Got the trailer loaded already. Looking forward to the pre rally ride to the UP. I really expected some mention on the web site home page of updated information concerning the rally as it has gotten closer to it. I'm afraid that most people don't know that this forum exists.
