hi, I"ve been a member of the site for a long time but have never really had a need to post before now.

I'm sitting here looking at a cb450 with a complete D kit that I'm helping tune and clean up to see for a friend. as of yet we haven't even cleaned the storage dust off of it but i see that there are a few very superficial spots of rust on the pipes and two small dents in the tank, one of which will be difficult to remove.

I know that these kits are hard to come by but usually I hear them spoken of as the stuff of legend and never in the context of being for sale. Is there anyone on the forum with the knowledge to help me determine a ball park value for this bike?

According to an article that I read in Old Bike Journal,August 1998 issue
#99, "Only about 2000 of these "D" kits were sold, strictly in the United
States, and CB450 cultists know of less than one percent that have survived.

The D kit bikes are very hard to find. Usually you have to piece one together instead of buying one 100% complete. We have three of them (one of each color,) two of them we purchased on ebay and the third we put together ourselves. This was over a span of 8 years. I know of about 5 or 6 other ones but have never seen them in person. The price is difficult to determine, especially with today's economy. I can tell you ours are priced from $6000 to $10,000. One will probably be sold by the end of the week to a foreign collector. The only ones paying big money are serious collectors. All I can suggest is if you really want one, don't let the one you have there slip away or else you may wait several more years before another one pops up.

If you want some pictures of ours, email me at nicholscycle [at] hotmail [dot] com

Good luck!

Didn't take long. The Nichols clan now as much about the CB450 D kits as anyone I know. Cool working on stuff like that! Keep in touch with Andy if you have more questions.
