As I understand, before Kawasaki was in the motorcycle business, they were supplying parts to Maguro, a motorcycle manufacturer. Maguro, among other samall bikes, was building this BSA 650 copy, then the largest Japanese motorcycle. Maguro went eventually out of business in the early 60s, and Kawasaki bought the assets, and the BSA 650 copy came with it. This how Kawasaki got its foot in the bike business.
Kawasaki is and has been first and foremost a heavy industry giant, building ships, airplane engines, earth moving equipment, an even helicopters.
