Well I had a taste of the 2-stroke power, and I can't get enough. I was just gonna get it running and ride the wheels off of it, but it just has too much power and class to ruin it like that!

I am not really "restoring it" cause I am too lazy (and I really wanna ride it), but rather I am going to make it a good head turner. Very Happy

Lets begin in a junkyard. Under the kudzu...

Polishing the covers. This is just a sample Wink

Taken all apart and wet sanded. Well partially wetsanded.

All the chrome is pulled off and ready to be sent to the rechromeing guys in Myrtle beach.

Still much to do. Unfortunatly I have a feeling that my CB is gonna break its main chain soon. So this is probably goning to be my daily rider after it does... I got BIG plans for the CB. Anyway I got some work ahead on this one yet.

Nice project, that will be fun. Anything else worthy in that junkyard?

hehe Me and my buddy pretty much striped that junk yard clean. Got the T500, an Ascot, an XR200, and some really old honda pocket bike. But we just found a Honda CL360 with nice chrome and everything but jugs. Smile There are two old harley 250 two strokes, A Seca 750, and three or four 80s four bangers.

Oh and I should mention that I did get the T500 to work, and that is why I got passionet about it. Cause MAN its got tourque!!!

They certainly do have a load of torque and on a day with following winds riding 2 up and still briskly I used to be able to get 70 pmg by never going above 4,000 revs. In those conditions the bike was more than able to do that.
However properly tuned they will also really deliver a big extra wallop of power somewhere above 4,000 and if you stay up in the powerband it'll scream like a big chainsaw! It will also gulp a tank in 70 miles or less if you ride it like a chainsaw.

I quickly learned of the torque on my first ride. Laughing I got it cause I wanted the two stroke sound, but it put me in my seat when I got it running. Can't wait to see what it will do on new points!!!

Looks like you have a nice solid bike there. I think once you have all that stuff chromed......you may yet go for a total restore. Smile You would not happen to have a brother-in-law or somebody in the chrome business would you? Have you gotten a quote on all those pieces you have pictured to be rechromed.....not asking how much....just curious if you have gotten a quote. I have spent more than I care to think about on Triple showchrome on the following pieces for my 1975 T500 and still have not had the mufflers done. Though they look pretty good, I still want to have them done some day.

Front fender, mounting bracket, fender stays and all related scews

Rear springs and skirt caps

Chain guard

Header pipes and flanges (pipes need rechroming again)

Tail light bracket

Engine Guard/Crash bar (need it rechromed again after, sadly, I USED IT in an incident awhile back via a cage driver) Sad

When you have the mufflers done and if you are inclined to do so.....The price you paid in a private message? Dang.....I did ask. Rolling Eyes Have fun on that bad boy and hang on!

Not really a "pretty" bike, but it runs. That means I can have fun on it without worring about keeping it sparkling. Razz

Yeah, too much for triple chrome. Sad

I figure I got one, and that is the main hurtle. I have all my life now to make it shine. Laughing

Qingdao, I just bought a 1972 Titan that looks in very similar condition to the pic of your T500 when you found it in the cycle junkyard.

I'm curious as to whether or not you did a complete strip-down of the motor before you started on the cosmetic stuff or just got her fired up and running?

Mine is not running and I'm undecided about just going ahead with a complete engine rebuild and then coming back with resolving the mechanical issues first (followed by cosmetic stuff).

Also I too am curious as to a ball park price for having that stuff rechromed since mine will need the same.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Got mine from a junk yard with stuck pistons, stuck carbs, and WEEDS LOTS OF WEEDS. Laughing

This bike has been the most confusing thing I own cause I have NO idea where I am going with this thing.

First I wanted to just get it running and ride as is. Who cares what it looks like you know. I got it running at first, but then I was thinking "I don't have a pretty motorbike (I mean the CB is sexy and all, but not 100% GOURGIOUS)". So I decided to make this thing SHINE! After I took the motor out and the thing striped thats when I noticed that someone had welded over the frame ID #; meaning I can never get an "official" title for it. (off the record SCDMV thinks its a 1980 GS850GL, my old bike that burned up) Wink

I didn't tear into the motor, cause it only had 6k miles on it and good compression so I didn't see why I should crack the head... It ain't broke... don't fix it. Razz

Now I just putter around on it. Angering the spandex cowboys with the smoke.

I got a quote for some of the chrome like the back and front fenders and wheels for $850, but I want a real title before I sink hella dough on it.
