One thing I have just taken up is messing around with sewing. I want to make some custom cold weather gear using merino wool, alpaca, cashmere, camel hair and/or other fabric types. Cheap fabric is available in the form of old wool sweaters, coats, and the like at most any thrift store. To that end, I got this a few weeks ago and have been cleaning it up and lubing it as well as replacing the wiring and figuring out how to thread the crazy bobbin it has. It is a Singer Model 27. I finally have it sewing about right (as best I can tell, having only sewed with a machine a hand full of times). So I am ready to take a shot at fashioning a long john bottom made of merino wool.

Interestingly, the old motor makes the same smells that the small electric cars of an electric race track did in the 60's / early 70's when I was a kid. My brother, my Dad and I had lots of fun racing on a little track we had. In fact, the three of us playing with that racing set is one of the first memories I have; from when I was no more that three or four years old.

It was fun when I finished a (temporary for testing purposes) re-wire and found that the sewing machine motor actually will run. Altogether a pleasant end to an evening. The little motor ran smooth and quiet and the smell immediately was familiar and brought back fond memories.

My Mom taught me how to sew on a machine similar to the Singer you have in the picture and the bobbin was always a PITA to set up. I can't see to thread a needle anymore.

I collect (and regularly use) antique razors and shaving "stuff" (soap mugs, brushes, etc). I use a double edged gillette everyday that was made in 1912. I am also a new beekeeper. between those, the kids, and the bikes, I stay pretty dang busy...

I too love model railroads. Have tons of HO stuff that is 40-50 years old from my childhood. Fun hobby, almost as much fun as the bikes.

Hi orlo -

In addition to motorcycles, both dirt and street (and mini-bikes...) I enjoy drag racing my two Corvettes, I love to go shooting, I like to fish, I hunt morel mushrooms, I play disc golf, I love collecting knives, I play guitar, I play darts in a dart league, I like making web pages, and I also have stuff from my prior interest in model railroading.

best regards -

Medieval Re-enactment (sword fighting). The medieval re-enactment necessitated other hobbies like leather craft, sewing to make garb, and armoring. The wife and I love candles so I make over 100 varieties for gifts and sell a few to cover cost of supplies.

A couple links to the fighting.
