I have recently bought a 1972 Kawasaki f7a. I cleaned the carb and have a nice bright blue spark but, under a load the rpm's won't go much higher than about 6 thousand. It sounds like it is starving for fuel but it has a vacum controlled petcock so I'm not really sure how to verify that it is getting sufficient fuel. Can anybody shed any light? Thanks in advance, Mike. BTW....it has a vm26sc carb.

A vacuum controlled petcock should have a prime position to fill the carb bowl if it is empty prior to running (long period of time without use or draining of bowl). Remove the fuel line from the petcock and place the petcock in prime and insure full flow is available. If not possible you have a restricted petcock filter/screen. If flow is sufficient reconnect tube to petcock and place back in prime to ride bike. You may also want to loosen gas cap to insure that is also venting the tank. If the problem persists, then I would be inclined to recheck float height and make sure every orifice in the carb is clean, especially the needle jet upper holes.
