just bought it yesterday. engine turns fine with kick starter.
but, It will not crank, seems that I'm not getting spark.
the battery is dead so I'm not sure if that is the issue or
if it should crank without it. points look fine, fuel is ok.
I removed the plug to check for spark...nothing.
any help would be appreciated, im very new to this.
so, if you neeed more information i'll try my best to give it to you.
thanks again

There are a lot of good mechanics on this site , I'm not one of them . Still I am having a similar problem with one of my
little Yamahas' and have found a couple of things that happened . One , when the tank was removed and reinstalled a plug
came undone under the tank [no spark] . Later I had a problem accelerating over say 35/40 mph and week spark [condenser] .
And now I have no spark again . I bought a tune up kit , new plug , points , condenser . Be careful in this operation if you do
not have the correct 3 way puller . And last , I don't believe that you need the battery to get spark on a magneto system , but
I would charge it or hook up a charger and try it again . Hopefully one of our many mechanics will jump on this and straighten out
any bad advice I just gave you ! Sounds like a really cool bike !! Please post some pictures when you can . Welcome to the

ok, got spark, little mixed gas in carb and it fired up.
i then cleaned the tank, put an inline filter for any rust
that may have been left. took it outside and got it to
run for maybe ten seconds, then it stopped, cranked
and ran again for another five or so. I couldn't get it to
crank or run again after that, think I flooded it out. bad.
any ideas? the plug is old, but after two tries to get the
right plug, my real job got in the way. tomorrow (11/27)
I'll get the new plug. thoughts on how to approach this
would be appreciated. again, I'm totally new to this stuff.
