I was standing in line at a luncheon last week and striked up a great conversation about travel with a retired gentleman in his 70's while waiting in line for the buffet. The conversation quickly turned to motorcycles and he mentioned that he has an old 1965 Suzuki 2 stroke in his basement. He immediately tells me to come get it and take it home. I was a bit shocked but he insisted...Didnt sleep at all the night before-- I was like a kid trying to sleep on Christmas Eve.
So last Friday I went over to his house not knowing what to expect. He leads me outside and I crawl in his basement and pull out a rusty red trail bike with an S on the gas tank... He invites me inside, I meet his lovely wife and the guy hands me the title to a 1965 Suzuki K15 Trail 80 Hillbilly. This thing is going to make an awesome winter project and I'm hoping to restore the bike and get the 2 stroke rockin' this winter. I've been looking for a pit bike and this will make the perfect candidate. The bike has a changeable dual sprocket and has 10K on the odo. The seat is in awesome condition and the toolbag was inside the side cover. It appears that the kick pedal was broken off at the shaft and the steering head bearings are gone. Apart from a missing front fender, the bike is complete. This total stranger's charity has made my year...Christmas has come early!
Are there any restoration experts (specifically 60's Suzukis) in the house? I've got some questions regarding finding parts and need guidance on a winter restoration project for a pit bike. Are there any southeast japanese restoration professionals in business?

You're a lucky man! I've always wanted a K15!
How is it going with your winter project? |

That is great, I retired 12-31-08 and a friend of mine thought I needed something to fill my time. He had found a 1966 K15P with original title and 7k on the odometer. He gave it to me. I'm in the same boat as you looking for parts and wanting to know where to start. Mine has the luggage rack cut off but everything else seems to be there. Some black tape in the wiring, I haven't put a battery to it yet. It turns over with the rear wheel as the kick start pawl seems to be broken. I'd be happy to send photo's of mine, there are some small differences from what I see of yours. |
