Hey, Blue here, trying to help a friend with a starter problem, We haven't gotten the old 4 cylinder running yet, but making the starter function properly would be a great start. The starter will crank, but only for a second or 2 or 3 or 4 but not much longer, then it kicks out and spins. Do any of you have any thoughts as to the problem? It's a 650cc, thanks and c-ya Blue

Blue, pretty common problem on Kaws. The starter clutch pins wear and allow the starter clutch to spin free. The parts are still available and aren't too expensive. You have to remove the rotor to replace them, but it's not too bad of a job.

Paul, thanks, I was truly hoping it wouldn't be a serious issue, my friend is still trying to get a manual. This bike was his dads, then his brothers and now his, of course AFTER his bro let it sit for 3 years before giving it up. Tanks again and c-ya Blue

Which Kaws had the starter clutch in the middle of the motor. That was a piss poor design and a bear to try and fix. I had a 1979? 650 CSR and another 650/750 that had that. Bad, almost can't fix without taking the motor apart, right??
