Welcome to vjmog. So the bug bit you?? In most cases, once it bites, it just keeps biting. The next thing you know, you've got MBS (multiple bike syndrome). You'll see.
By the way, there's no stupid questions. Ask away, someone will have an answer.
OH yeah.....how about some pictures of your project?

The GS1000 of 1978 was the pinacle of muscle bikes. The 79 is a great bike. DOHC bullet proof in line four. If the pipes are bad, a four into one header works awesome. Kerker, Vance & Hines, etc. Make sure you have good tires because this is a powerful heavy bike. Point it in a straight line before you wick on the throttle. Welcome to our forum. WE LOVE MUSCLEBIKES! Is it the E model?

Welcome to the group, there are for sure no stupid questions, and believe me, I thought I had my share to ask, but being relatively new to the group myself, I have found everyone responsive to even what I thought was trivial. Oh yeah, "the multi-bike syndrome" take it from the proud owner of a gs750 circa 79, which I think is no slouch by any means, certainly faster off the line than either of my 2 Harleys, and of course it would be unfair to compare my cl350 with any of the above, so, good luck and welcome c-ya Blue

Steve says...'The GS1000 of 1978 was the pinnacle of muscle bikes'. Not sure about that but what I do know from direct experience is that while I had ridden CB750 sohc models, GT750 waterbus, GS750E,Z900 and various other fast big bikes the day I got to ride a friend's GS1000E took me into a whole new realm. I could not believe how unobtrusively and easily it could cover the miles on our twisting, undulating, two lane blacktop with two aboard and luggage. It did everything so easily and just never ever seemed to be having to be worked hard. Then when I later got to play on a GS1000S and it was even more impressive I became a total believer in the big 2 valve Suzuki motors.
Only once since has riding a particular bike shown me that a bike can be light years ahead of its peers.I got to have a spirited play on a KTM 950 Adventurer on shingle roads when my own adventure bike was the erstwhile Honda Transalp. The big KTM was so much better(as a riding experience) than any other adventure bike I'd ridden it was a revelation.
So far motorcycle journalism hasn't quite given the GS Suzuki 4's the recognition they deserve in modern motorcycle history. To me the GS550/650/750/850/1000 range(E/L/G/S etc) are brilliant in terms of reliability, durability, and accessability of performance.A truly iconic design!
