Hi everyone...working on my '76 Honda CB750 (K6) now...pulled the carbs of the machine and soaking the jets, etc...I would be soaking the housing too but the Clymer's manual offers this warning
"Caution: non metal parts may dissolve in carburetor cleaner. the plastic piston guide in the carburetor body will dissolve in these cleaners and is not available as a replacement part"
I'm cleaning without soaking and blowing out all passages as best I can...any suggestions? P.S. I pulled the carbs yesterday because the bike would only turn over and cough a few times before wearing out the battery...gas flow is very good...cleaned the tank...and checked the lower carb bowls for gase...changed spark plugs...thanks _________________ "and there's nothing wrong with me, this is how I'm suppose to be, in the land of make believe that don't believe in me"

I've had great success soaking my carbs in Simple Green. It disolves all the crud, but doesn't damage any of the soft parts. It will discolor the carb body if left in for more then a day, but it doesn't hurt it, it just gets a little grey. It also doesn't smell bad and will wash off with warm water. Hope this helps.

Hey, Paul..yes it does...I have the jets soaking in simply green right now...then tomorrow I'll soak 'em in Seafoam...
...but for the housings, based on your input maybe i'll put the in simply green tomorrow for like 8 hours? _________________ "and there's nothing wrong with me, this is how I'm suppose to be, in the land of make believe that don't believe in me"

A better solution is white distilled vinegar. You can soak the entire rack without dis assembly and won't hurt any rubber or plastic parts. Keep them soaking for 24 to 48 hours depending on the amount of crud, tar, rust, etc. Also good for cleaning up the carb bodies as well. _________________ ...Brian
