I'm not as big a Yamaha fan(bad luck with them over the years), but I learned to street ride on a '73 RD350(rather steep learning curve)in my junior year of high school in '74.......why I'm still here is beyond me. Shocked I also owned a '72 DS-7 250cc twin with R5 350cc cylinders ported to old TD-1 specs on it while in the USAF.......ran like a scalded dog if you could keep a set of plugs in it longer than a week. Many larger bikes got embarrassed by this little sleeper.....only giveaway was the chambers on it and larger carbs at a closer glance. Twisted Evil
-I also owned a '77 XS750 shaft drive triple which was a great road bike but another one with tranny woes--had to repair the trans before riding it for a few years in early '80's. Hmm
-A '68 Yammie 305 Scrambler was another bike I had for a couple years, got rid of it after a piston ventilated its crown on the freeway and made a 152.5cc single out of it. Thumbsdown
-I am currently in possession of a '04 Yamaha TTR250X single dirt bike, kinda fun but cold blooded. It at least handles......!!Thumbsup

Mark, good idea with the "What you got" posts. That should stir up posting. You are the veteran forum god! I will drag race any 650cc with my Yamaha RZ350.

Close enough, those Fazers were a trippy-looking bike.

Definitely! We like the "special" bikes of the 60's, 70's and 80's. My friend has a fazer. It is awesome. Radians are super nice, quick and responsive as well. My 750 Maxim was cool and the 750 Seca is a classic. We like 'em all!

those 350 yamahas were a snarky bike
mine was a purple 350 tourque induction, and was a 74 , i believe, maybe a 73, age gets the best of me now
but, anyways the nickname for these purple bikes, was the "purple people eater"

a good name for a dangerous little ride

stop signs were the worst to pull away from, I wonder how many people got tickets for popping wheelies , that "just happened" because of quick tourque?

Had that same 74 RD350. They were and are awsome bikes. Getting ready to restore a 76 RD400. Just brought it into the basement today. Can't wait to get it back on the road. Very Happy

I still have third gear for one of those rolling around in my tool box.

I had an FZR750RT. (For those not familiar with the model, has a close ratio six speed, fully adjustable suspension and a big black dot on the tail section) It is the only bike I regret selling. And an RT or RU would be a suitable sub.

Yamaha`s HUH? Well i have a 72` XS-650 i`m restoring , Ive also owned an FJ1100 and 1200 and had fun with both.
RD`s galore too, It was the bike to own throuout the 70-80.
Ive slowed down now and rarely ever do wheelies on purpose my 650 is just fine with me now.
But hey ..I dont fault anyone for dragging/racing these gems.
Anyone who doesnt like them never rode one.
A bithchen bike in any model.. LOVE the yammies.

I have 2 xs11s. An 80 special, and an 81 standard with the Vetter set up.

And my Fiancee has an 1980 sr250, which we bought for $50 out of a garage and got running.

We have a bench seat on it now, and are getting ready to paint the trunk to match the bike.

My first post, yippie! I was doing my occasional search for TD-1 and this came up. Don't know if my bikes qualify, well I know they qualify but don't know if there's any info about them here. I've owned 4 Yamahas, and still have 2 of them tucked away in a safe corner of the garage. The first 2 were TD-1s, a B and a C. I rode the B on the street for a few years, that was an interesting ride, no lights and about 35 minutes between battery charges because someone put a Big Bear engine in it and took out the generator. The more normal ones were a Vision, lovely engine in a not quite good enough frame traded in on an FJ-1100 that I sold with 112,000 miles on it and got the 97 Buell I still ride.
