Welcome to VJMOG sol123!
So what are you planning to do with it? If it has no title I'd part it out. You could easily triple your money. If you got papers maybe a cafe bike, as going for original would be costly. Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome to VJMOG. You asked for advise, so here's mine. As Rizingson has already said, if there's no title, all you have is a bunch of parts. Do some research as to the value of the parts and start selling.......or find another similar bike WITH a title and make one complete bike. If it has a title, and you really want to make a bike out of it, be prepared to spend some money (maybe lots) and time finding parts. If you're not in a hurry and don't mind spending some bucks, go for it, but if you want a rider, look for a more complete candidate. If you decide to go with this bike, keep us posted with your progress.......and we'll try to keep your interest going. This advise is free, your results may vary.

........Paul

Looking at your pic of the bike I'd say it's a 1975 or earlier year model. The 1976 GT250 didn't have the ram air on the heads or the intake grill on the side covers. This may make a difference in the carburetor type.

It is not nearly impossible to find parts, for that bike. You just have to start looking, and talking to people. If you want impossible, try finding parts for a 1901 Indian. Trust me you can look all you want, because the bike and the parts for it do not exist. Now like I said earlier I do have a used oil tank, that is in good condition. It is just right now I am a little too busy trying to clean up the mess that the snow and Connecticut and Light Power left for me.

Correct. It's a 1975 model - probably titled as a 1976, because that's when it was first sold. The carbs on the 76 were attached to the cylinders with rubber insulators, rather than bolted straight to the cylinders as on the ram air models. So the carbs you need will have a mounting flange with two bolt holes, not the round intake mouth that fits into an insulator.

Here's a set on ebay right now.

How much oil did you put "on the pistons"? Remove the spark plugs, and see if you can kick it over. Did you put the correct amount of oil in the gearbox? I hope you didn't "top it up".

Stu

ps. please use punctuation and capital letters makes things so much easier to read thanks Wink

Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Sounds like you are hydro locking...if you kick it hard you will bend a piston rod.
You can put a thimble amount of “2 stroke oil” in the spark plug hole for storing...not a 1/4 bottle of engine oil.

Which chain are you talking about? The drive chain you can get. It is perhaps the easiest thing you can find for any bike. Re-read what the gentleman said about hydro-locking. Now I am just getting into learning about two-stroke mechanics, after being a four stroke guy for years. But from the little I do know hydro-locking does make sense.
