Thanks for the tip on loosening the valves Paul. It took about an hour to work it back a forth , but now it turns nice (happy camper here)
Turns over or not, you have one hell of a mess there. The cam belt idlers are likely toasted, and the cooling passages in the block, plus the water pump and thermostat housing tubes probably are full of crunchy crystals of semi-dry coolant. Good luck with that. I've worked on some really messed up old Wings, and that one looks pretty nasty.

Stu

Actually , the rest of the engine isn`t crusty & rusty, just the front for some reason. The covers were on tight & gaskets looked good , but they must have done alot of riding in the rain & put away wet.

Meet mister head, pretty spotless inside NO????

Ahh, come on Stu, your gonna make him cry Wink .......besides that corrosion is all on he "outside" of the engine. The coolant (look at the lower hose connection) doesn't look too bad. It's still green. Hopefully the inside of the cylinders aren't that bad. Don't give up hope, Fish, were behind you all the way.

The inside of that head looks pretty good.....how many milles are on that bike?

.........Paul

booo hoooo hoooo Very Happy The odo say a little over 25,000 (my 76 has 19,000) and yes the coolent was clean & green & oil was full & just brown & no cream in it. Like most big wings of the early years , most didn`t have alot of milage on them when put away. I have put 27,000 miles on my FJR since i bought it 2 1/2 years ago.
