I have restored my triple, and the engine has been reworked and tuned by Purple Haze Racing. The engine is now making 70 hp with the changes and original Denco Expansion Chambers. I installed a new heavy duty clutch friction discs and plates and heavy duty clutch springs. I still am having trouble getting the power hooked up to the ground. At about 5000 rpm the front wheel leaves the ground and then the clutch slips. I am not sure on how much to tighten the clutch hub nuts. Should they be turned down to tight or something else. I should know this but am having a long term brain fart. I will post a picture of it when I learn how to post pictures to this forum or perhaps I could PM to someone who has a clue and have you post it for me. I have had it in 3 vintage bike shows and I am proud to say it has taken first place everytime. It is quite unique and the Harley Boys and Girls really stop to talk and share their memories of the Triples
Thanks for any clutch info you can provide. Gizmo |

seems the commonly accepted best oil for the trannys is belray gear saver as most of the new oils have friction modifiers
that can cause slippage as to the clutch spring bolts i just ran mine in till snug and it works fine ( no torque spec shown in manual ) |

Thanks 650 Hardtail. I will drain and pull cover and check. I think I had a brain fart and did not snug them down. Could be my slippage problem. I have put in 90 wt gear oil instead of the 30 wt engine oil. Perhaps I should change back to 30 wt oil??????? I only have about 200 miles on it since I put in the belray. Take care NICE BIKE!!! Oops just reread you message. Will leave the 90 wt gear oil in and tighten the clutch hub nuts/screws.

| Just a little worried on your behalf reading over your posts. The only Belray gear oil that I'm aware of with a 90W rating is a Hypoid one,and they specifically say don't use it in a wet clutch. On the Belray site the Gear Oil that seemed to be the one for your machine is listed as a 75W.I'm no expert in oils, but many many years ago I wrongly put a hypoid oil in a car gearbox with disastrous and expensive results. Check carefully which Belray Gear Oil you are using just in case. |

Thanks hardtail, I am going to drain the 90wt hypoid gear oil and replace it with 75 wt gearsaver. If this were your problem, what would you soak the steel plates and friction discs in to rid them of the 90wt.
The steel plates and friction discs are new Barnett pieces and the heavy duty springs are from EBC.
