Hello everyone, I am pretty new the the motorcycle scene. A friend of mine from work has a 1972 Honda CB500/4. It has been sitting for a few years and needs some work but he wants $300 for it. It needs a spedo cable, possibly a spedo assy, and possibly a coil. Are the parts hard to find? Is this a good buy?

For $300 yes that is a good buy. These bikes are just begining to get noticed by the serious collectors. All those parts you need you can still get from Honda. I own one and happen to use it as my daily rider. It is a very good motorcycle, far better then the CB750 in my opinion.

300 is a great buy. you could part it out for triple that if it doesnt work out.

parts are not hard to find. in fact i have many parts for a 550. I can also provide you support while you attempt to get it going.

Not everything from a 550 will fit on a 500. The basic stuff like the petcock, speedo, and sidecovers will fit. The carbs will fit as well as long as they are keihn 641s. But this stuff will fit only up to the 1975 model year of the CB550. One thing to look out, these bikes were not built with the best clutch. So if you tend to be a little rough with the clutch it will blow up.

I have not been around bikes very long so I don't know much about what is interchangable. If you go on bike bandit and use the oem schematic to find your part number then put it in the search box it will show that part, the price, whether it is available, and (the useful part to me) click fitment and it lists everthing that part fits. Accurate as far as I know.

First off, Welcome to VJMOG from a fellow yinzer. Good to see another guy from the burgh. As the other guys have said, the 500 is a good bike and they have been getting more attention and becoming somewhat of a collector bike. Some parts might be hard to find, but not impossible. If you decide to buy the bike, let me know, I might be able to help you out.

If you do buy it I think I can help you out with a few things such as speedo and tach, etc. Keep us informed either way what you do end up with.

It looks like it's in nice shape. looks like it's been "chopperized"...........bars, forks, pipes, but it seems to be all there. Hope it works out for you.

I'm gonna get different set of bars for it. The guy said they are great for cruising but not so good for city riding.
