New to the site. Found it looking for info on a 67 yl1 I got this winter. A friend of a friend passed away and was getting rid of some shit he left on his property. I dug it out of a snow bank and there it was a 1967 yl1. Not to bad of shape alot of surface rust but the inside of the tank is in great shape. Now after all the usually prep it started on the first kick but only one side runs seems to be a carb issue. Im getting oil coming out of the exhaust.

Welcome to VJMOG. I'm sure one of the 2 stroke guys will be along to give you some advise. In the mean time, how about a picture of your project??

OK, the pictures a little blurry, but it looks like he's practicing to jump the Snake River Canyon. What's going on??

Welcome I would check the points and the plug on the dead cylinder. you can not clean a gas foulled plug. if you have spark check the jets in the carb. good luck on your project. Here is one I am working on. http://www.vjmog.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album153&id=054_G&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

Is there an online manual for the yl100. I pulled out the coil and cleaned all the contacts and now getting a low spark. I also cleaned the carb again and now it seems I'm getting gas with the oil dripping out of the exhaust so gas, compression, no fire.

Swap the coils. if the spark gets better on the weak cylinder, change out the coil. If not check the points You gan get a coil at any parts store.

There are online service manuals, but I haven't found one yet you didn't have to pay for to download.
Google: Yamaha YL1 service manual

I also like a hard copy manual.
Hate grease and oil on my lap top key board. Wink

All day efing with the bike and I got both sides to fire, dam this thing has some power when running on both cylinders. But something is wrong with the points. What size of a space should I have between? For some reason the side that was firing before adjusting is now only firing for a trip around the back yard and now I have worn the point down to where I have barely any adjustment. am I correct in thinking the point on the left is for the left cylinder while sitting on the bike? I was dam excited when they both fired up now I'm not sure what to think.

LOL That's what happened to me. Make sure the bike has a good battery and that the charging system is working. point sets can be gotten on ebay for about $7 each. don't forget the condensers. Is your bike an "E" model? electric start?

I don't think so there would be an e in the vin right? mine is yl33. It came with a keyed ignition switch with the wires pulled off the back and no key. If I can't find another one Im going to try and rekey it and resolder the wire but not sure which wire goes where, or where to find a key that at least fits the groves.

there is no "E" in the VIN. Mine is a yl33 also..The electric start model has a push button on the right hand control. and three terminals on the regulator. As for the key[web] http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-Yamaha-Main-Ignition-Switch-YL1-918-131-82508-10-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem519760010dQQitemZ350432002317QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories[/web] See if the info helps. If you want to know something, just ask. there are no stupid questions

Lh side top horn button, bottom has a 3 way switch not sure what its for? but no start button I thought maybe it was on the ignition switch?
