just scored a set of pistons AND jugs for 7.99 plus 16.99 in shipping, appear to be in decent shape, or at LEAST better than mine, ive got a loaded head on order as well. that SHOULD complete engine issues. now to get the gaskets and rings.

the realm of the project has changed im afraid to a bobber for the wife. granted less parts needed (kind of) but more fabrication. working with a guy (not on site unfortunately) that is modernizing the bike with dual disks, disk rear gonna re-fab the rear end, and other interesting mods to the frame to make it lower for the ULTRA cool wife.

I SHOULD start SOME of the motor work started in a week or two. im now officially in the "wait for parts and see how it goes" stage.

ive handed over the reigns on this project to the cool wife, as her lil toy now that i have my VFR, shes meticulously designing every detail out down the the stitching on the seatpan (bratstyle). she designs the hardest shit.... i gotta figure out how to make it happen... ugh. ill do anything for her i swear. if i know her, i may not re-visit this thread for MONTHS because she will have to re-work her design at least 3 times from ground up.

new jugs are at buddies shop getting honed on HIS time schedule (see ya next spring) so no more motor work as far as under the head. I'm gonna rip up the head next weekend and see if i can save any of it (#1 is stuck bad) but i have an option for a low mileage head as is. rings are still made so im ok there, kinda... at 50 a piston if i read bike bandit right (yeowch) bearings arent much better @25 each.

got a purchase plan on a FZ suspension (front and rear) to update it with more modern brakes, and a monoshock rear end, probably going that route (the CW really likes it) but cant get to the parts (distance) till next spring. nice thing is its already set up, weld the mounts for the shock and bolt up. frame is still outside and its getting cold, so i gotta get it downstairs in the basement (no garage) to start grinding tabs and configuring electronics. she hasnt decided on tank, but HAS decided on a trailer fender that i have to pierce with spades designs.

ill post any worthwhile updates as they happen, which may be a while now, sigh.

You are like me not much of a life. My current project has me sending set of hardbag brackets out to get powder coated after the first of the year. Monday I will be fabricating a extended turn signal stem so that I can mount my fairing on my CB500. Then it will be onto finish my Benly. my last and final project.

in a chaotic world, motorcycles are about the only thing that makes sense. i dont drink much anymore, and fixing bikes is one of the reasons for that, dont go out much since there isnt much to go out for and spend free money on bikes so i dont have the free money to waste on other things.

the cool wife hasnt even started on details like powder coating, chrome, or paint yet so i cant ship any of that out, at least you have that!

I don't have a wife or a nagging girlfriend so I can pretty much go ahead and do whatever these days.

Thrasher,
Nice job on that seca, if mine was CLOSE to that i would have kept it intact. i LOVE the dual brakes on the front, mine isnt set up like that, so i can only assume its a different front end, what is it and what was needed to make it happen? looks like suzuki rotors hooked up to a stock rim with brembo calipers... huh? aftermarket swingarm with the stock rear rim i see as well. is that a youshimura slipon? i would love details on that build, if you get a chance, PM me with it or post a thread on it! overall nice build with subtle aftermarkets and well thought out upgrades but still with the appearance of "stock".

the "learning" aspect is going to be more on what is easily swappable onto the 550, not to sound cocky but ive learned as much general as i think possible, its now the bike specific aspects that im learning. theres a difference between a "motorcycle mechanic" and a "XJ550 specialist" im now officially learning to be the latter. the issue with that is ill NEVER use it again after building this bike since it IS almost 30 yrs old already and harder to come by than a GSXR.

pulled the motor and other bits into the basement, gonna pull the jugs off today, need a friend to help me get the rolling stock down though, i REALLY tore my shoulder up bad wrecking the YTM, i can barely steer the damn thing.

Wow I just saw the question, sorry Buddelim. The motor swap is direct all but the bottom rear motor mount bolt. The FZ needs a longer bolt, other than that it is a simple swap.
