Well dor, Just got home and no time to work on it tonight. Long days drive. Early this summer took it over to a "race guy"s" shop who knew ALL ABOUT 2 strokes...Yeah, right! Anyway, was having the same problem back then so when I went to pick it up he said he got it all straightened out. Had to do some carb tweaking and put in a new battery he tells me. Starts it up and sounds fine but then it will sound pretty decent with just one side going. Get home 52 miles and take it out...no power! $177 later I get a new battery! Called him back and he says he ain't got room in the shop right then for my bike! Screw it and him. Anyways, I do have a new battery but will charge it tomorrow just to make sure it's up to snuff.

BTW, last year when the engine seized up because of the oil pump, it would run again after it cooled down. Just thought about that coming home. If the check valve for the oil is plugged or something strange like that, would it not fire just for lack of oil??? Just a thought.

Well boys, my cheap multi-meter has been saying I have 11.75v. Put the charger on the "NEW" battery and it won't go higher than 9.9v. Could be the prob?? Why then would it fire fine on the left side??

Doug,
What is the number one rule when doing any type of troubleshooting? (Fully charged AND known good battery)

Too many unknowns for me to be of much help. I have to ask myself if that guy that installed a new battery did the first initial charge correctly. BTW, did you get the receipt/warranty slip for the "New" battery from that guy? I don't know what charger/ amps you are charging it with. I don't know how long you are charging it. I ask myself has the battery has been overcharged? (partially damaging it) I ask myself if the battery has been discharged too many times or left in a discharged state too long or if the battery is defective?

I have read on more than one occasion that at least one reason the rightside cylinder on a T500 will drop out can be because of a battery that has low voltage...maybe the same thing can happen with your bike.

Why would the left cylinder continue to fire fine as is the case with yours?

I don't know and don't care....Maybe I will figure it someday when I have more time...maybe someday when I am in a nursing home. Wink For right now, I will 'listen to voices of experience' and just assume that what I read about the right cylinder dropping out is true. I would just keep this in mind as you also take the advice mentioned from others earlier. Good Luck

I may have shared this on an earlier occasion. I discovered that T500 ignition points are easy to damage when the cover is off.Any misalignment between the two parts major of the assembly can see a misfire, and intermittent loss of one pot, that is very like what happens on strokers of the time when the battery is very low.

The points are a relatively delicate assembly. I retraced steps in my mind when I was having the issue and realised I had damaged the points by rolling the engine over when the cover wasn't fitted. (Don't recall why the motor was out of the frame). In my case some careful 'tweaking' got it all lined up again.Whew!

Such damage could easily be done when cover off with engine still in bike.Easy to imagine a bicycle pedal doing it for example or a light glancing blow with a heavy plug socket on a rachet driver.

If I pressed the guy who is over 50 miles away he would probably make good on it but no, I don't have the receipt. I'm a stubborn cuss and the guy had the bike for 2 friggin months when I said "no rush". (DONT EVER SAY THAT! SOME PEOPLE THINK YOU MEAN IT). My bad. What really torqued me was when I called him and he didn't have room for the bike...call back in a week or 2! ???? NOT! If that was me (and I'm no saint), I would stay up all night long to get it right and tell the customer to bring the thing to MY HOUSE if I didn't have room but so many folks just ain't like that no more.
Just a big talker was all he was. Anyways, I charged it for about 3 hours at 2 amps and never got above 9.9. Been gone a couple days and just got home. Have to get a new battery yet and we'll see what we have. Will be back hopefully with good news. Thanks guys.
