#1 is Permatex should never be used on a motorcycle.
Only a fool uses shit on their motorcycle.
#2 gas eats Permatex and the bowls will leak.
Buy the correct float bowl gaskets.

Yeh.....don't use that stuff on any part of the motor. Had you seen evidence on the carb bowl of leaking at the gaskets? Might as well check the overflow stacks for any vertical hairline cracks with a loop or a magnifying glass while you have the bowls off. Also tighten the bowl screws in even increments and in an X pattern.

I use the same sealant I use on the case halves....Yamabond last time....and I only put it on the clutch cover itself with a new gasket. No sealant between the new gasket and the motor.....I get away with it with no leaks, you may not have the same results. Hondabond or 'Three Bond'( Three Bond 1104 available from auto supplies I think. I know you live out in the middle of nowhere and do not have a dealership nearby and want to get it back together today. Someone might check me on whether it is the same thing as Yamabond and Hondabond. Then there is that sealant that I cannot remember what it is called...starts with an 'H'. Where did you get the carb gaskets last time? In a Kit? Again I ask....was there evidence (varnish ,etc. of the existing carb bowls leaking? If they are cork gaskets just use the the relatively new/old ones for right now and try to figure out if the carbs are indeed leaking or overflowing. Good Luck

You tell em Ray. NO silicone, NO permatex. If you must, use a small small amount of Hondabond applied with a tooth pick or q tip swab. The gasket is the seal, the bond is just to hold it in place. Really the only place you might need the goop is securing the valve cover gasket to the cover, and like Ray said, buy the good gasket from Honda, not from aftermarket source to save a couple bucks.

Are you thinking of Hi-Tack gasket sealant made by Loctite? Works well.

Real classy comment there Spider! And you liked it Red. Maybe be a different story if he said that to you?? Gotta love these "Keyboard Commandos" who say anything they please on a computer and probably not face to face. Rolling Eyes

I do get the point you make - however, knowing Ray, he would have no problems telling anyone what he thinks, mano-a-mano, face-to face......

Yes, that is it. Was marketed from a British company (Used or developed by Rolls Royce?) Permatex was the distributor in U.S. for awhile.

OK, that's fine but no need to talk to someone that way on here. Some of us are not pros so it is unbecoming of those who are to do so. Doug

I would say anything to your face but, you being 2000 miles away on the other side of your tough guy monitor stops that from happening.
But, I said nothing "Commando".

I stated a simple fact, if one uses Permatex shit on a motorcycle, one is a fool.

Damn Doug.

You were quick to jump me when I replied to your answer concerning the X6 sidecovers. All I said was that you were wrong! I backed up, and ignored your aggressive reply, although I'm too old to do that often. Get your feelings off your shoulders, and quit whining. Every answer can be said in different ways--You're always looking for reasons to get jumpy. Complex, maybe???
