Chain toss....maybe....I had a chain toss one time that destroyed the neutral indicator switch/housing but the case was Ok. Also, according to what I have read, the K15P was only made in 1967 ( and those in made in the second half of 1967 would be a 1968 model.)

EDIT: I would think there would be some chain 'tracks' on the exposed rod.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think micro fiche technology was pretty new in the sixties and may not have been available for every parts manufacturer.

I just went and took a look at it. There are definitely two identical gouges about 3/8" apart just in front of the bend. Looks to me like it could easily have been the chain. Good call fellas. The fact that there was no chain when I bought it is another clue I suppose.



BTW: Am I correct that this is a 420 sized chain? Any particular type I should look for?
