That's correct. If the valves can be wiggled slightly on the fork tubes, you're good to go.

Finally got around to finishing off the fork re-build, minor hiccup with the end cap refurbishment! As you can see from the photos I have replaced the originals with some of my own design and making. The originals were sadly butchered by an over zealous plater!

Excellent job on the top nuts. If those dust covers are NOS, you may find them looking like they're 30 years old in a couple of months - cracked and split. We have a Frenchman on this forum who makes them from modern polymers. They should outlast the bike. Dor, do you remember the guy's name?

Thanks for the tip, will certainly keep an eye on their condition.
They actually are the ones that were on the bike when it was given to me about 10 years ago, so I've no idea as to their origin.

The reason I said what I did is because of my experience after buying a NOS set from the UK on eBay. They were still in original packaging and were perfect. Less than 2 months after installation, they were as badly cracked as the originals. And they cost me a ridiculous amount. Lesson learned for me.

As I had mentioned in a different post....same thing happened to me to the rubber on a pair of NOS front foot pegs T500 that I bought right off the warehouse shelf from an old dealership. No telling how long they had been sitting up there in that hot dusty loft. They looked great at first. After a few weeks of use and exposure they started to disintegrate. I wound up putting the original ones back on. Reproduction rubber for the front foot rests are very expensive but I will have to bite the bullet sometime in the near future.

Ouch! Just checked repro decal's site and see they've doubled in price over the past couple years. At least you get something for your money that won't crumble to dust in a few months. Doesn't look like they have them in stock, though. Special order only.

Maybe I will carve some new duplicates out of wood and coat them with rubber.
