After 3 days of kicking and fiddling with Trents GT250, I have come to ask for advice.

Got Fuel, Got Spark New B8ES Plugs. Pump Primed.. After about 10 kicks you can see smoke slowly rising from the exhaust and it will sputter only so slightly. Then nothing for about 10 more kicks. Then the same sputtering and a little smoke. One time it even tried to take off and idle and then stopped. The bottom of my foot is bruised and my leg is done for..

I keep going back over the usual and obvious grounds, plug wires, plugs.. etc. The plugs aren't sooty just white with a coat of fuel and oil. (Not Dripping)

Anything appreciated......

stupid thing to ask, but since i did it, im probably not the only one...
points wires to the right coils?
timing set "close"?
id DEFINITELY look at grounds,
bad gas? too much oil in the mixture?

heres my "first start" procedure for most problem bikes... ETHER... spray a bit, and see if it fires, if it does youve eliminated air and spark out of the holy triad, leaving fuel. if it DOESNT fire up, check for CORRECT spark! (hint, on a twin, try switching the plug wires or in my case the points wires were right, but the coils were on the wrong cyl.) check the IGN ground and the kill switch.

Hope that helps! good luck!

Already did the swap plug wires. Got the dredded "pffft pop" like it was fire on the wrong cylinder. Put them back the way they were.

Spark doesn't seem all that impressive. Does have a new battery and every single light flasher bulb neutral light brake light etc works as it should. So I'm under the impression its wire correctly. I've been looking at the points and condensor. All are new. Double checked gap/dwell etc. I'm baffled....

OK I'm off to pickup the kids for the weekend.. I was hoping to be "SuperDad" before they got here. Oh well, maybe the boy genius can figure it out...

Thanks.

Any further input GREATLY Appreciated...

Ran great before he took it apart. Just a clutch and seals. It only had 6k on it and great compression.

The bike was a complete Powder Coat and Paint.

Going to heat the plugs and give that a try. Never done that before, but I'll try anything once.

Have good fuel? Would it help to ground the engine via jumper to the Saturn?

New fuel, new petcock. The tank was nice and shiny on the inside.

I had already made a ground from the coils to the top of the engine. I may decide to run another from the Battery direct to the coils and the engine. After looking at the spark It just doesn't seem to have the intensity that it should or like the other 2 strokes around here.

I'm gonna whoop this thing before it kills me....

Have you checked to see if the throttle valves (sliders) are installed right.....all the way down and 'cuttaway' facing the air box?

Still leaning toward a ground issue what with all the powdercaoting and paint (which looks great). I'd ground it to the car battery and see if you get stronger better spark. Go or No Go =good dad

OH Yeah....still a good possibility.... If the dual coil assembly /mount is just two studs passing through two non threaded holes in the coil mounting plate and if the coil mount itself needs to be grounded ...then the powdercoating could be a problem. On the T500 I used a round nosed rasp (not a grinding stone) to remove the powdercoating around the coil mounting non-threaded holes so the fastening nuts would make a good ground and rasped any other hole that I thought might be a problem. I did leave just a trace of a layer of coating (polyester) hoping to protect the metal a little.

Going for the electrical route. Gonna hop up the voltage LOL

DDOOO WHAT? ! Are you going to do a step by step troubleshooting test on the coils, etc. with a multimeter as per specs in your manual?
